I've given up. I started early this afternoon and I've stopped the download at 3.5% (note the decimal point!)

Plenty mirrors up now. if you want to get it you can pick a mirror here:

Personally I used Gamers Hell and chose the Netherlands 1000MBbit link.

Maus

First impressions, after about five rounds, are that it's much more fun than vanilla BF2. Maybe it's just the new maps breathing in new life, but the weapons feel a bunch more accurate too. I've so far only played on chaotic pubs as TG's been full of TG people since release, but it's pretty dang great all the same. :D

Once we get our servers sorted I'll get things running on our side. Have downloaded server software to server ready for installing.

Cadaver

I've had the chance to give POE a whirl as well, and must say it's pretty damn good.

Stuff I liked:
  • Commander is not all-seeing so stealthy play could be possible - no scan or UAV that I could see on the CO screen on the server I was on.  No artillery, or jeep drops either.
  • Artillery now requires teamwork.  It takes the form of self-propelled guns that players drive around the battlefield.  Artillery spots must be made in the field using bincoulars and radioed back to the gun before its gunner can fire.  Spec Ops, Snipers, and Assault classes can all spot for artillery.
  • APCs and Transport Choppers can now carry a full squad. :thumbsup2:
  • APCs and Mobile AA mostly require a driver and a gunner to remain mobile whilst firing.
  • Pick-up kits.  There appeared to be a few pick-up kits available at the UCB.  The one I tried swapped your spawned weapon loadout for a shoulder-fired stinger AA missile.
The weapons do seem more accurate, I did manage to be quite effective in dieing quite a lot.  The new German/Ukraine uniforms also took a bit of getting used to as well.  It does seem to lag a bit more than vanilla BF2, but that could just be my ageing machine and/or the general pap graphical performance of the 1.3 patch.

All in all there wasn't much I didn't like about this mod.  It's very polished.

Nice report Cadaver. Thanks for that. I am definitely of the opinion that we should run this Mod.

Uhm I noticed the PoE server has "SF" in the name. If this is a mod for Special Forces that could explain why it appeared more laggy.

No, it has SF in it's name coz I forgot to remove it. Fixed now but it may still be laggy.

I look forward to trying the "Fallen" map - an infantry-only map in a forested area.

One of the big differences in the gameplay, as I see it, is the need to lock the target before being allowed to fire the AT launcher, on ground vehicles. And of course also the need for vehicles now to use countermeasures. Oh, and the advent of the shoulder-mounted stinger, as mentioned earlier :flirty:

Just been on - not laggy at all - smooth as a babies bum :)
