TL Stepping Down

This post has been the hardest post I have ever had to write as it is the culmination of all of the stress, worrying and thinking that I have been struggling with over the past few weeks, but I need to inform all SOG members that this afternoon I reached a decision to step down as an officer of SOG and leave the Guild to join Genesis.

Why?
The reasons are numerous but here's a summary of the important factors:

  • I have become increasingly frustrated by some members poor attendance, lack of commitment, reluctance to pot up, or willingness to go the extra mile.  As usual it is the commited that suffer, they are the ones who show up, pot up and prepare only for their hopes to be dashed by those who are 'no shows' .
  • I sold my business in July 2006, but towards the end of last year started a new one; this means I will not be able to spend the multiple hours per week in addition to my playing time on Guild admin, tactics research and preparation in 2007 that I have been doing in 2006.  I also need to know that if I set aside some nights in my week for raiding that they are going to be used for raiding, not cancelled due to poor attendance or be unsuccessful due to a part of the raid not preparing properly or potting up.
  • The demands on my time from my new business have started to increase recently and I have been feeling this increased pressure over recent months.  This frustration & pressure has led to my enjoyment of the game being greatly reduced.  I want my time in WoW to be fun and the cancellation of the MC speed run was, if you like, the straw that broke the camel's back.
  • In particular, prior to Christmas, our inability as a Guild to reach our declared RG1 raid goal of killing C'Thun before end 2006 was devastating to me and highlighted to me the differences between what I wanted from raiding and what some others seemed to be almost 'not bothered' about.  Worse still, our inability to field a full raid on our final attempts of 2006 led to us wasting several golden opportunities to go to C'Thun by not even having enough to raid BWL, let alone AQ40 or Naxx.
Clearly I am not getting the enjoyment I need to get from the game and it was either quit SOG to try something new or quit WoW.  I chose the former and only time will tell if I am a fool.  I have been an officer of SOG for well over a year now (you can blame Ragnarh, he promoted me!) and I have also concluded that maybe it is time for fresh blood to get a chance to guide SOG through TBC and beyond.

SOG will to me always feel like my home, SOG provided me with my first ever 40-person raid experience (that thrilling first kill of Magmadar!) and I have been fortunate enough to be at every SOG first kill since then.  SOG is also home to many good friends and I hope that my decision to leave will not find me as an outcast or on their ignore list.

It is customary at this point to thank people for their help and friendship, but there are so many people that I would need to say thank you to that a simple 'THANK YOU!' to all will have to suffice.

I wish both SOG, Bastet and his Field Marshalls every possible success in the future.  Bastet is a strong leader and I am sure with the help of his FMs he will reorganise SOG and make it a success in TBC.

Finally, please don't be a stranger!  Hopefully I will bump into SOG members not only in-game on Aszune, but also in the wider dMw forums and on the game servers that dMw operate, like Boomer (CS Source) etc.  WoW will eventually die (yes, it's true!) and it would be great to be able to continue these friendships through these forums and across many other future or current games.

I hope that this thread does not prompt a flame war on the forums.  I have tried to be honest and provide you with as much information about my decision as I can, but if this is not sufficient then please feel free to whisper me in game or speak to me on TS.

It has been a privilege and pleasure to serve you as a SOG officer.  Thank you for the opportunity and 'au revoir' my friends. :byesad:

TL.

PS: Please remember that I will continue to provide free access for any SOG member to any recipe or enchant or design that I hold.

Well all i can say TL is that ur a great bloke, will be sadly missed. you are afterall the reason that i am in SOG, signing me up as a lowly lvl 14 dwarf warrior and also the reason i bough wow in the first place. I just hope that you are keeping an alt in sog so we still see you around more than we would just with u on friends list

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]

Lucian

Thanks TL! Truly a legend, and you'll be an asset for Genesis.
