Widescreen Monitors - what's the point?

WoW runs at 2560x1600 which is the native resolution for the 30" panel. :norty:

Can your machine handle that? :blink: I've got an Althon 64 4000+, 2GB DDR 400 RAM, and a GeForce 7800GTX, and in the new Outland areas when they're quite busy I often drop to about 25fps at 1280x1024 with all options on full.

Strangely it doesn't get any better if I drop all the graphics settings and res right down, so I guess WoW must be quite CPU bound. All the other games I have run fine - FEAR, Oblivion, etc etc.

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 @ 3.5GHz with 2 x 8800GTX in SLI mode, so I'm figuring the answer to that question is 'Yes'. Currently my WoW has all the bells and whistles on at the same resolution as you and I max out the FPS all the time wherever I am.

I've just ordered one of these as my birthday present to myself, we've got one at work and it looks amazing. Can't wait to get Photoshop up on it

The Dell 3007WFP-HC got its first mention (if only fleetingly) on the Dell UK website on 25th January. No sign of it being sold outside of Dell just yet, but hopefully that will come real soon.

It did arrive and I'm using it now

Looks great and the extra resolution is brilliant for Photoshop. I've just finished watching Sundays Top Gear on it and it's really good for video. I'll get a chance to try some gaming tomorrow night.

In summary, I'm a very happy chappy!

I got mine from http://www.europc.co.uk/ although I placed the order by phone as I wanted the A03 revisions. A01 and A02 had banding issues and placing the order by phone allows you to specify the revision. It worked out about Â£515 including delivery. As you'll see from the home page, this company deals in end of line/cancelled orders/excess stock and in my case the monitor had obviously been out of the box as the VGA cable was connected to the monitor (could just have been for testing). All other cables where still in the original wrapping.

If you want one that's never been touched then I'd go to Dell.

Took them about 2 hours to work out to confirm the Revision number but hey...
