I sent him a warning PM and as far as I've seen, he's been fine since.

Quote from: Whitey;190080.... but it had to be made easier (for Bravo) as CS was in danger of going the way of the dinosaurs within dMw.
We now have a good core of regular players and the criteria for entry into Bravo can be reviewed if we think it's needed.

I have to agree.

Over the last several months since Doris-gate etc, there was a real risk of the server dying a death. Now the servers are more active than they've been for a good couple of years imho.

Overall I think the mix is right and I think the balance is good. If anything I would say that we have too many mani-admins but generally it doesn't cause too many problems. I do appreciate mani powers has to be dealt with a fair hand and if some Charlies have the power then the rest should too.

I'm more concerned about some of the draconian adminning which is happening but then that's a subjective 'thang'.

I still like the fact that Charlie Status is NOT given out as easily as Bravo and it should remain thus. So long as Charlie status is not given out lightly then we have some ability to control things.

Nice idea, too, about enforcing forums contributions. I have felt lately that a couple of people just want their wings for the associated 'glory' and care nothing for the Community as a whole.

Whole-heartedly agree.  Like it or not the forum *is* our lifeblood and people need to be on it regularly and contributing to the community.

Could you expand a bit more on what your concerns are? :g:

I like to think we are firm but fair.  We need to crack down on idiots before they spoil the game too much for everyone else.

Agreed. The admins are permitted to enjoy themselves as well - if they were to spend the whole evening trying to run a decent server then they do not get a chance to play. The ONLY way is firm but fair.

OK.

Now I'm not mentioning names so on a more generic basis......

I get the feel sometimes that some of the admins are 'itching' to exercise their kick/ban powers for what is, sometimes, minor mistakes and infractions.

Maybe I'm too soft, but if someone strays out of bounds then I'll try to educate them and warn them about boundaries - however I've seen people kicked straight off without so much as a by or leave or warning.

EG. Recently one player was straying and I told him to stay within the boundaries. He said he couldn't see them so he restarted and then voila - he apologised, said he could see them now and has been a good player regularly since - happy days. If we'd kicked him straight off then we would have lost a valuable player.

I'm not advocating that we hold people's hands all the time but sometimes gentle words of encouragement could be used to educate rather than a straight kick. That way we're increasing our loyal base.

Occasionally, like Pete, I've smurfed into games and watched the adminning. Most of the time it's fine but occasionally it's just too zealous imho. I call it the itchy trigger syndrome.

If there's no senior's on and several mani's the second that someone does something wrong then he's jumped on by two or three people almost baying for their blood. An accidental TW is the worse - a misthrown grenade can start a torrent of retribution.

Anyways, it's all a subjective thing and I think in the main it works fine. If I can find an example of what I mean in the chat logs then I'll post it up.

To be honest they get plenty of warning without us having to do anything. Sadako came up with an excellent welcome screen which explains it all and there are plenty of messages displayed on screen to let people know the rules.  If people can't be bothered to read any of it, then they usually read it once they come back from the kick (kicking also ensures they see the signs on their return).  Personally I like to warn people individually before kicking, but on a server with lots of players that isn't always workable.

I've never done that but I do watch the console when I'm not able to play.  It does sound like it could be fun though

That's not on and we need to name names so that we can follow up on it (send me a PM if you don't want to do it here).

Thanks for the feedback Pen :)

lol BB.

TBH I can't remember who it was so let's call it a clean slate and take it from there if that's OK.

And yes, smurfing is an interesting exercise to see how the server runs from a guest POV.

I haven't, but if you smurf in an break the odd rule it would be interesting to see what happens and how it's handled .... :norty:

That said, overall the server is superb and I think it's running ever so smoothly... I just wish I had more time to play !

Well, they can't do anything. If I'm correct the admin stuff is sorted through playerID instead of name right?

All good points Pen (in this and previous post) but I do a lot of direct admining with the "say @@ name" command which is only displayed to the player in question. So sometimes it may look harsh kicking someone "without warning". However, as Whitey said, if they do not bother reading the rules why should I spend loads of time trying to get them to read it?

In my current job I don't get that many chances (if any) to play CS in a week. So when I do get the chance I don't want to spend >80% of my time admining. If they don't get the message they are gone. I will not waste time on people trying to bend the rules or ignoring them. Our server our rules. Shape up or ship out! :byebye:

It depends on your admin level. I can kick/ban anyone. Just need to know how to do it.

I need details and times.  I can't take any action based on this post.

EDIT: I've seen the thread in the main forum so I understand what this is about now but still need more information on what happened and what action was taken on the server.  I will review the logs once I have access.
