So for those of us that have followed developments at Blizzard might remember that allot of the makers of the Diablo series left to form their own company 4years ago. For the rest of you, now you know. :D
Their first game is called Hellgate London, a post apocalyptic action RPG set in London. An almost completely new concept of combining FPS and RPG with randomly generated 3D levels.

The game will be released 1st/2nd of November in Europe and me and some other old timer SoGies( Vargen, Kreuz most likely, maybe Melans(Theodwyn)) are going to start playing it. So now I am wondering if anyone else has been planning to start playing this game or might be intrigued by this post to start playing. If you are planning to play it please post in this thread so we might gather some SoGies together when it gets realesed.

Some info about the game

This not an MMO though it will have some of the elements an MMO has. It has Single player but multiplayer is only online as far as I know. There will be free online play and there will be Elite online play that will cost about 10$. Elite gives the possibility to create and be officer in guilds, play in hardcore mode( 1 death equals character is dead), more character slots online, PvP and highest level ladders and some more.
The online play is supposed to be similar to that of guildwars, where you have safe havens where you can meet other people but everything outside these havens will be instanced and only accessible by you and your party.

This is an action RPG which means no specific class roles and being swarmed by monsters is more standard then a few mobs. It has  6classes in 3factions at release(might be more for elite users some months after release).
Templars have Guardians(sword and board) and Blademaster(dual wielders)
Cabalists have Evokers(fragile spellcasters) and Summoners(seriously read the name :D)
Hunters have Marksman(gives close to FPS gameplay) and Engineer( release heavily on Drones)

Well I have been typing this while waiting for the SP Demo to download going to play it now and maybe post some thoughts on it afterwards.

I have a hard time seeing it as a doom offshot seeing as it is an RPG and a Diablo clone though if you play the marksman class it does give some Doom feeling.

I have played through the demo now with both classes that are available in the demo and found it to be around what I expected, the item hunter in me from the old Diablo II days was satisfied, I found the skills a little irritating and I have heard some critique of the skill system in general but over all it was as good as I expected it would be.

Now this kind of game isn't for everyone but if you enjoyed the Diablo games and Diablo clones like Dungeon Siege and Titan quest you will most likly enjoy this game though some people might not like a futuristic setting. I have heard some negative comments on the story but the demo doesn't give alot of info on the story so I can't comment on that though the story in action RPGs isn't why I play the games.

Well, not a SoG'er anymore, but I might try the game out..
Wasn't too impressed with the demo though, but it's just a demo.

The graphics, for example, does seem quite out of date, as has been written on the net.
The finished game could be a whole other story though..

At least I hope so, but i've read that it has gone gold already, so we'll just have to wait and see..

Been looking forward to this game for quite a while now, so despite of the demo, i'll surely be keeping my attention to it..

Oh, and cheers all SoG'ers.. The best thing that happened to me en WoW.. :byebye:

Demo was decent enough, will probably buy it and might pay for Elite eventually.

Well the game is coming out 2nd of November here in Norway, 1st in some europe countries. I will be playing an Evoker named Tenilia as my first character. Kreuz will be playing a Blademaster named Kreuz and Vargen will most likely play a Blademaster as well not sure on name but he has used Frostwolf in the beta for his character(was Marksman). I will most likely be starting a guild when the game is out though name and such hasn't been decided. Lastly we might be taking over the SoG TS while playing if you want to join us in there :D.

I have played in the beta to lvl20 now. The game is highly addictive( I found WoW not to be very addictive compared to Diablo but I feel that Hellgate is even more addictive then Diablo). It still had some irritating bugs that were in the beta that I hope get fixed. Among those is a pretty big memory leak, game crashing when trying to exit. ( though I didn't notice these bugs allot after the latest patch before the beta servers went down).

I find the game to have very good graphics compared to RPGs though only mediocre compared to FPS games.
What I have seen of the story so far is also just mediocre.

What has me really hooked is an amazing item system. Good and addictive gameplay. Nice atmosphere.
I find it to be a good game now but I think it can be great in a few months.

Lastly there is a thing that irritates and is still ok I think and that is that playing in groups scales badly so difficulty goes way up just by grouping with a second person. But I think this will be fixed soon if it hasn't been in release.

Ive preordered it and played in the EU beta for a few hours, mostly on an evoker.
But i could do something else if we want some balance when grouping :)

well I actually think 2blademasters and 2evokers is well balanced since melee characters complement the evokeres so well. Only problem would be no use for hunter drops and people needing the same items. I can as well change character seeing as I plan on subscribing and I expect to play all the classes rather quickly. I expect engineer to be my second character if I start as Evoker and Guardian will be my first Hardcore character.

It also depends if more people will be playing or not.

A small update

Tonight the servers came up and if you were in the beta you can use your beta account to log in. You will still be restricted in the same way as in the beta so you can only finish the first 3acts and only get to lvl22 until you get a retail cd key.
Me, vargen and kreuz are already on, following is ingame name, class and current level.

Me - Tenilia, Evoker, lvl14
Vargen - Darkwolf, Blademaster, lvl18
Kreuz -  Kreuz, Blademaster, 18.
Me - Enialis, Engineer lvl14.
Vargen - Ravenn, Guardian lvl10.
Tanales - Hidos, ca lvl13.
I will get the retail sometime on friday. Subscriptions aren't ready yet but I hope they will be when I get the game so I can create a guild, though I still don't have a name for a guild :D
