Mustn't confuse speed with racing. :flirty:

Thanks for the warm welcome. I had lots of fun yesterday :).

@Altrezia

With slower cars you can concentrate more on racing as you don't need to concentrate so much on controlling the car. When you pick up a bit smaller track for a slower car, less speed is not a problem. I've had some of the best races with UF1.

MRT's would be better, they're still slow, but fun to drive. Not the easiest though I suppose.

Hi TriniDex, and welcome.

When I got my S2 license right after release, was it spring 2005, I did not go online right away. I had never been online with any racing game, so I was kinda afraid of high requirements. I wanted to practice a lot before starting online. But it's good that you start right away, you get to learn racing basics now already. But do also do good amount of practicing offline.

My recommendation for any new racer would be to drive one combo as long as you feel that it is very hard to improve, then change the combo. When you come back, you will probably soon beat your earlier record.

When I started, I drove FXR in Aston Nat, and I would guess I did about 500 laps on it offline, and got my lap time down to 1:44 something. Back then it felt like a great time. I remember that I had to work hard to get under 1:47, it seemed like impossible. I used Analyze for Speed to compare what faster drivers did better, and I tried to learn from them. I also read some great racing books, like Speed Secrets by Ross Bentley. I had to learn so many things, and I don't feel myself as any natural talent, but I just love this thing so much that I've done some work to be somewhat decent (midpack) driver.

I've read that chess players talk about the geographics of the chess board. This came to my mind when thinking about how you need to learn a new combo. What you have to learn is to keep the car near to it's traction limits when driving a good line. If you miss the line or have wrong speed, you can't just imitate the perfect driving, you have to adjust, it's not the same corner anymore. And when you add other cars, it becomes racing.

(how do you make a nice end to the post?)

God help us when you get a wheel! Tonight on Fern bay was another example of good practice. Keep it up. :)

GREAT racing last night mate - I loved that clean lap that we shared - very close racing, no touching, and generally good manners - very impressive. When you get faster, you'll be running with the top boys, that's for sure.

Good work. look forward to racing you again.

Well done indeed, you made it difficult to overtake( as it shold be :)) and it was an enjoyable episode of the race.

I'm going to close this thread because he's had more than his fair share of praise. It's beginning to make me feel sick. :baby2:

OK guys!!

I have got my little GT flying around blackwood in 1:42 on average so I think its time to step it up.

So Im gonna become a regular on the dMr server I was on for a bit on sunday and found myself sliding into walls and cones for the first few laps but I slowly got it together.

What are the best times to join the server?

Hi Venom, most of the dMr folk start arriving at about 1930, current car is LX6 and the track is South City Town.  Not the easiest combo to start with!!!
Good luck :)

I think it's good to join online races at some point. I learned lot by observing faster, more experienced drivers.

The LX6/SO5 combo (SO Town?) is a difficult one. Don't worry if you hit walls etc, so do I often (especially if you use mouse). Let's hope the folks chose more racing friendly combo next thursday.
