Thank you all for your comments.

I agree that some maps lead to limited comms but surely if we are playing in a tactical way we need to try and not run round the map like mad.

On the second map I played last night (HQ - single objective) there was absolutely no comms whatsoever from my team other than Blunt saying "Phone - brb" and, I think, Lionheart responding when I asked for about the fourth time if anyone was using comms. That's a poor show folks.

I know the game is new to us and I know the maps are strange to most people but we have to start making the effort to use comms or we will just get used to not using them and before we know it we'll all be playing TDM :(

Quote from: Liberator;240854Comms were quiet when I joined, but it was on a domination map and my usual practice on those is.

1. Where the hell have I spawned.
2. Is there anyone around dangerous.
3. Yes there is, how long till I respawn.
4. repeat until map over.

You don't get much time to think and 3 target sites makes for confusing comms even if they are labeled A, B and C because you could spawn anywhere. Only when you have 2 or all 3 of the sites do the VC's tend to get used as you have a common goal.

Later on when we got into some of the more 'single goal' maps its easier to make calls as you pretty much know that everyone on your side is going for the same spot. This is when VC's kick off.

As for radar, I quite like not having it. It should mean that VC's are used more for positioning information and it's something we have to develop.

I agree with this to some extent. I think the reason for VC not being used enough is that:

  • We don't know the maps good enough. Sure we have played them and know the general direction of things but we don't have names for places on the map as we do in cs. If someone calls long or short A everyone knows we are talking about dust2 and where that is on a map. Once we do have names for things (which will happen in time) I think the use of VC will increase.
  • As mentioned above lack of radar combined with point 1. doesn't make it easier to communicate.  "I am by the container err ... [dead]"  type of situations happen a lot in domination. As lib says you focus on you getting directions of where the hell you are. This will of course become better with time once you learn point 1. and how the spawn thing works in relation to what flags are dominated by what team on a certain map.
I think that we just need to give it some time and it will sort itself.

Yes indeed - more comms needed.  I feel lost not knowing what car someone has bought or whether the tyres are any good.

I also find it particularly annoying from a tactical viewpoint not knowing whether someone is on their first or second bottle of wine as this can affect their aim in my favour.

Also if comms are that bad maybe use TS2? :g:
