I definately exist on the Steam database as I can't create a user with that e-mail anymore.

Don't create new user details. use your old details when you create the new account (works for me) :narnar:

I created a new account because reinstalling using the original account didn't update properly. With a new account, it proceeded in an orderly fashion along to road to complete success! The the email saying my CD key was nicked. I then remaned the ron.attwood@finnglish.co.uk folder to doorman@etc. and was able to login as doorman and tra la la. Everything in the garden is lovely.

No, what I meant is click the button to create a new account but enter the details of the account you already have

It worked perfectly - i didn't want to deviate from the email addresses I already use and that was the only way I could see to do it.
