I thought the original concept was that they were to be life time awards.

Penfold

I thought it was up to the SA. I know Whitey for example designated the CS badge as life-time.

And I thought L4d was to show active players, hence my comments. Maybe I'm wrong? It's not uncommon :)

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Knew I'd start something. I would have said it was active players. I have no problem if my CS badge is taken off me for example.

From an outside perspective it would be people you could turn to for guidance in your particular choice?

We'd discussed this before and we'd said that the general game badges (not WoW due the the way they are awarded) are for life.  Once you have earned the badge it shows you know how the game should be played.  There's not many of us that would forget how we play CS (for example) just because we have a break for a while.

Anyway it's good to debate these things every now and again. :)

Benny

Ok, so I caused a fuss. Happy days, I'm not going to reinstate them (yet), but I won't remove any more.

Just for arguments sake can I have a WoW badge? I used to play, never will again, but hook me up.
Oh and a DMR badge? I used to play and would like to again, but can't set up at the moment...

I guess my point is that everyone who gets one badge is pretty much entitled to every other badge under that statement. We all know how we are expected to play within the community. So why not have a 'community' badge? <- moot.

I've re-read the original threads and am happy to say I'm squarely in the wrong so am happy to go with whatever people want. If you want me to reinstate I can do, I have the original list.

Just before anyone jumps on me, it was Whiteys fault, he said discussion was good.

If we already agreed this then fair enough and I do remember it being discussed but have to admit I must have got the wrong end of the stick about how we retain them.

Benny does make a good point though as I have played plenty of Cod4 and CS in my time and understand the ethos for both games. If so there might need to be a lot of retrospective badge awards to make everything consistent.

Or we could just leave it all alone as the community doesn't seem to be making any issue about badges?

With regards to competitive badges as well, I think there should be a 'expiry date', some people only play one match and never play again, might be because they have now achieved their badge..... or they might of realised we are crap at competitive play which is probably more than likely , but this might help enable us to get people to sign up and play more than once?

Just my 2 cents (enter 2cents smiley thingy here)

Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

Blunt

I'm quite happy for people who have earned the badge to keep the badge, with maybe the exception of the competitive badges.
I find it quite useful to be able to see what games a member has played with us (there are too many to remember)

I will be doing a cull of CS:S and CoD4 admins in the next few days, as this is in the same category as competitive badges imho.

Pah, you b'stards have stripped me of my only gaming badge I hate you all.

On the other hand my l337 forum $killz allow me to give myself any badge I like.

I feel a "Sex God" and a "Mr Fabulous" badge award coming
