Back then it was about the 10man version and it got sucked up by us moving to 25. Now here we are with a very capable group and nothing very much more important to do. I don't think the other officers need alot of convincing to go for Maly thursday and sunday if need be. Although I'm convinced we can do it in 1 night.

Good attempts on him tonight but i have 1 little rant

I think it was just a little annoying that we just gave up to go to naxx, we had good attempts getting to 20% nearly every time... and instead of building on it we took the "easy" way out of it and did Naxx instead.

If we really want to get the annoying dragon dead before Ulduar's released we're not going about the right way of doing it... The more attempts, the better we get, the better we get, the easier it gets... IF we just give up we'll never get him down

Tonight was good and we've seen alot more of P3 than before (when it was just "OMG Phase Thre*splat!*")

We're getting there but we're having issues in 2 area's as far as I can tell.

1st) We lose far too many people on clouds/beams still

2nd) Stacks aren't high enough. Whoever was dishing out 15+ stacks is doing a good job, I suppose those with around 10 are close, but I saw alot of single debuffs on him.

If we want to get him down before enrage, we need to improve on that alot. It's absolutely key that these dots are high enough. We can't lose dots as we won't make the timer, and consequently we can't lose as many people as we do since a corpse doesn't produce dots.

Here's a video to see exactly what's going on during P3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfY-LPymJRU&NR=1

Note how the clouds are caused by the Blue ball he shoots out. That means we can already start moving as soon as he shoots this. He doesn't target a person with it, he uses the location of a random person at the point of casting as the spot where it lands. The people who get beamed seem to not move out of the group as well, just fireshield.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfY-LPymJRU&NR=1

Another video suggests the following method of rotation on the flame stuff: 1 - 1 - wait for 85 energy - 2 - 1 - 1 - wait for 85 - 2 - 1 - 1 etc. Furthermore this guy offers a nice tip for the fireshield. When Malygos focusses on you for the surge, watch the surge cast bar, cast Fire Shield exactly as it finishes. This way it should last long enough to last you through the entire channel with just 2 combo points. His final notice is that his last dot tick before the boss went down hit for 27000 damage. Every dps'er should aim for this or more ideally. He posts at the end: 27000 (without CoE) x 18 (which he takes as the effective number of dps'ers, taking into account people who need to shield) = 486000 damage per dot tick. Makes the last 10% pretty much drop like it's trash.

This vid is quite good actually, apart from the fact you can't read the text half the time.

Finally, Tankspot's 6 minute guide to Malygos offers a different but interesting P3 strategy that's explained very clearly:

Then one last question. Someone mentioned a script or macro or something that allowed setting camera distance to even further than the default max. I think it was TL but I'm not sure. Care to share? Cause I think it'd be very handy here :)

Zoom Camera Beyond Default Range
Can increase the default camera distance view to zoom out farther (via mousewheel).
-----
/script SetCVar("cameraDistanceMax",30)
-----

or use this macro:

Zoom... Camera
A macro that will zoom the camera out to the maximum distance allowed by game code. Run once, and forget, until/unless the settings are lost or changed somehow.
-----
/script SetCVar("cameraDistanceMaxFactor","3.4")

untested ,, or should i say to be tested

Tip for Phase 3.

-mark healers with symbols
-you can manually type /follow healer (this allows the movement to work without you pressing buttons and keeps you tightly grouped)
-dps do 1-1-2 as suggested above
-healers target themselves and to 3-3-3-3-3-4 (it AOE heals in the area around YOU so if everyone is on follow thne it becomes significantly more effective and you can even heal through unshielded damage with 4 healers doing this)

..and the script has already been posted!  Thanks Jas.

This is the thing and all should watch it! Constant movement, not waiting on focuses or clouds like some did. When the whole pack is moving constantly we will get clouds in the group but then we are on the move and will get out of those clouds fast and the AOE heal will heal you. Zoom the max out, you don't need to see your drake up close, as you should be pressing Q and sometimes W only. And using mouse to use the abilities ie. Also when he beams you you will need to hit key number 5 asap. There is really nothing hard in this fight, if everyone know the basics of movement and what keys to use it will go down smooth. And this is the DPS point of view I'm talking about.

Thanks Azunai for posting the videos. The 6 mins strategy from tankspot was really helpful. I didn't think the beams could be overhealed, but it seems they can. About the next time strategy, i suggest we try as the 6 mins tankspot video shows: 5 healers alternating the healing buff at max combo points. That should help quite a lot the stacking of the dps debuff on malygos, for they will not have to bother in using the shield and try not to lose the debuff. In addition, i noticed that in the video, the whole group was very close together, while we spread (without meaning it, maybe) soon after the beginning of the 3rd phase. To help avoid this, i quote the suggestion of the camera at maximum distance, but i would also like to have marks on all the healers who are using the healing spell in rotation, to help them stay close together, and to make all the raid aware of their positioning.

EDIT: Rofl Tealeaf, you got me on speed posting there. I quote him entirely. =P

One annoying bit that I guess made us decide to go to Naxx was also that we started to get sloppy on P1 and 2. It's a drag having to go through those 4/5 minutes every time just to see P3 and at some point that takes its toll on execution I guess.

i think we did really well last night - and @ jim - we did not take the easy way out, we took the sensible option. when we wnt to naxx we did so becaue concerntration was slipping a lot. we moved to naxx to get some reward for the night, it was felt better to get a little stress out and kill some stuff and get a couple of upgrades for people. chances are that we will be back on sunday and if we make the same amount of progress then we will down the dragon

Just a little wrapup of our very succesful run tonight :D

That 2nd attempt (yes, we killed the bugger on the 2nd attempt at P3!) was nigh-on flawless I dare say.

What worked really well (I heard, as I was the victim ) was a /follow macro, so we're gonna stick to that in the future. Furthermore, damage dealing was done proper in the 2nd round but first time we got very close as well - it's just that we lost more people there.

I'll try and not forget to get some of that superzoom next time to make sure I have a better view at the clouds (cause due to the excitement I moved a bit premature on quite a few clouds, confusing them with the beams), and it should go even better =D
