Here's the clip of the foot work I was banging on about during the week:
(I thought he was on slicks, but I'm pretty sure its wets now.)

In my opinion this is the most impressive foot work I have seen.  He switches between left foot braking and right foot braking mid corner to keep the car as balanced as possible.  For me it takes about an hour to get my head around changing between just doing left foot braking or just right foot braking.  But swapping between them, never mind in the soaking wet... :worship:

:worship: +1 . Now that is impressive. I gotta learn how to do all that:D

I'll take the risk of being totaly stupid but... why or what is the reason for dabing the brake on the way up the gears?

Ah! I'm not alone. I did wonder what good that little dab on the brake did. If it's anything like me (which it patently isn't) I have my foot on the brake to change down (heel & toe) whether I need to brake or not. I acknowledge that as a very bad habit. Perhaps it just a habit with him. Reassuring himself there's a brake still there?

Believe it or not they all do the pressure or safety tap to make sure the brake pads are right up against the disc before they have to brake hard into a corner.  It sounds madness that it could make that much of a difference, but I guess it goes to show the kind of limit these guys are driving on: That if they didn't tap the pedal they would out brake themselves because they took 1 extra fraction of a second longer to engage the brakes.  It gets worse as the pads are worn down over the course of a race, but I have seen them do it straight from the start too.

Further thinking about it, I seem to recall them saying that it makes the brake application smoother when they are sure the pad is right up next to the Disc, which would make sense.

Impressive! Thanks for the link, Sean.

I've been trying to learn to combine LFB/RFB too lately, after watching Katsushika's movies. And it's actually proving very useful. Particularly in corners where you just need to loose a little bit of speed and then accelerate as quickly as possible -- you don't loose time switching from the brake to the gas. Also it can be good to balance the car by applying throttle + brakes at the same time (like the aliens do all the time in iRacing for example)

But it definitely takes some practice.. you gotta "tune your brain in" so that you don't suddenly get confused as to whether to use your left or right foot for braking, ending up double-stabbing the brake. :lmfao:

I do left and right foot braking a lot, but can't do the heel and toe :D. Instead of heel and toe I just drop the gear while braking and apply some throttle before releasing the clutch pedal. I have not found enough motivation to start learning the H&T, perhaps because I feel that there are other areas I should improve more to get my times down. :)

Sometimes I find myself braking with left foot and pressing the throttle with the right one at the same time, and changing the pressure on each pedal as needed through the corner. Especially with the current combo I seem to be doing it a lot, and generally with the sequential shifter cars.

With H-shifter cars it really depends on the combo: last week was pure right foot braking, I think, but at the Westhill I think I was doing both.

I was always confused by the term 'H & T' because I cannot manipulate my leg to the angle where both get on different pedals without a knee transplant, so it's a relief to see that the 'wide foot' technique (which I previously thought was an oddity) in use by someone else!

Heel & Toe is one of those expressions that came down from motoring history when the throttle pedal was in the middle and the brake on the right. If you imagine that layout you'll see it was easy to use the toe. :learn:

Yeah, I see a lot of the quick guys doing this; yourself, Venca, Ed & I think Deetz too, I just cant get used to it myself.  I think that's mainly because I cant seem to figure out when is the right time to do it.

I can however Heal and Toe quite well now thanks to the Historic Mod in rFactor.  You don't have a choice unless you want to enter every apex 180degrees facing the wrong direction :D

Yeah I've seen and heard many really fast guys doing that, like you and Gnomie and Doorman for example, but I just can't, it's too complicated. :roflmao:

Great video,really good driving :norty:

I was also wondering about the little tap on the brakes now and then, I guess rfactor and nKP don't model the brake discs that accurately so there's no needs to learn that trick :roflmao:

I've been H&T for about 2,5 months now and it's already second nature. I started (learning) when I was spinning off in almost every corner due to downshifting with the HistoriX mod for rFactor :lmfao: (edit : Like Seany already mentioned)

I do mix up H&T and LFB during a lap, but never mid corner.. I'll have to look into that
