Considering a break

Lo folks.

I already lightly touched on it after tonight's raid, but I just wanted to post it here since not everyone was there. I'm considering taking a break as raidleader/from raiding with DMR.

I know I've ranted on about low performance for some bit but this is not about DMR as a whole, nor is it about tonight's raid specifically. This is just me being tired of going nowhere. And I don't mean tired as in a rant, just being tired in the zzZZzz kind of way of wipes night in and night out. I know it's part of the job, just that since DMR is one of those where progress is quite slow to show it really takes alot of energy from me to keep asking people to move from Fire, to do X, to prepare for Y, when in terms of progress there's so little to show for it.

I think it's also partly to do with me just not enjoying it alot. I know wipes are a common thing when on a new boss, it's just that we have been doing it alot for the past few months and only taking down 3 bosses. That's why I'm enjoying such trialing nights as we had when doing hardmodes in Uld10 last friday. It's alot of wiping to be sure, but progress is made with pretty much every wipe. We were getting somewhere. What's bugging me quite a bit is that there's little challenge in the fights for me personally. That's not to sound cocky by saying "pff I got this fight sorted in 2 tries and have to wait for everyone else to catch up" but to be frank I'm not experiencing alot of challenge in terms of tanking in our current content. I find myself pretty much exclusively trying to get others to do their job right. It's getting to me a bit that I can't find many things to improve on for my part but lots for others (mostly since me needing to improve mostly comes from dps starting to generate more aggro). Easy to say since it's often easier to spot flaws with others than with yourself, but you'll just have to trust me that I don't mean that in a boasty kind of way.

Basically I wanna take a week or 2 off of raiding and see what I want to do. It already falls in sync with a few absent nights from me anyway (not gonna make raid times come thursday or thursday the week after).

its a good idea to take a break every now and again, I took one and now I really want to raid but, im having problems with my machine! (and now starting a new career!)

tbh if you think you need a break then you do need one, i know your not the sort of guy to say something unless you have thought about it a bit.

Hugely understandable everyone gets "wowed out" now and then and its good to take a break. Hope you enjoy your time out bud and return full of enthusiasm ready to hit content hard.

Hopefully you'll still be around not raiding etc to chat, heroic, farm, etc with.

I'm about every evening for a while, although not always on aszune, will be on thursday and friday night for a bit

Right I've had a chat with Necro and Jas tonight, and seeing as it's rather hard to get as many of you guys together in 1 channel I'll just post the gist of it here.

Basically, I'm looking for another raid group.

Reason for this is because I want to go more 'hardcore' if you will. That doesn't mean 6 days a week 10 hours per day's worth of raiding, but you know.. a step up.

It's not an idea that flew in over the past few days or weeks, but something I've been toying with over a long time. I've just never done something with it because I always felt more or less guilty I guess, since I'm an officer. The thought however has been in my mind since midway through Ulduar abouts. This is why I took the break, not so much to figure out what I want, but to see what the effect would be on the guild. Fortunately it seems I don't have to worry much, with Anub dead and all.

As such it's not that I am blaming DMR for lack of progress or whatnot. We don't have to lie to eachother here, despite our efforts DMR will not be a guild on top of the proverbial foodchain. And it probably shouldn't aim to either, due to the somewhat casual/social nature of the guild. It's fine the way it is, and efforts that we make are in order to keep it at that level.

It's just me wanting something more from my raid time than I feel I can currently get in DMR.

That said however, I don't want to sever all ties with DMR, because DMR is probably the best guild I've ever been in in terms of social cohesion, and there's not a single person in the guild today who I feel is a total jerk, which is a first for me. On the negative side, the problem is that it's quite hard to find a place to go as a tank since most of the medium-high end guilds have tanks who are settled, loyal and dependable and are unlikely to leave any time soon. I applied to Origin and while they liked my application, they could not give me a spot for this reason.

So I'm not gone just yet, consider this a heads-up of the fact that I'm looking out for a spot elsewhere. I don't mind raiding in the meanwhile but I would consider it no more than normal to pass out on loot when doing so.

....how do I always end up writing huge walls of text even when I set out to give a rather short notice? :<
