I need to upgrade my CPU and RAM quite badly and I'm not at all very technical. Anything beyond putting in a new gfx card or some ram is generally not my cup of tea. So I decided on a simple path: Upgrade Kits. A motherboard with a CPU and some RAM already on it, so it's just as plug&play as the above examples (just a bit more plugging before you can play :P). I've not kept up to speed with the latest and greatest in cpu/ram though, so I need some advice. I'm looking at the following products (had to reformat them because the store's site won't let me deeplink properly):

Upgrade-kit Intel core2duo E7500 4096MB DDR2 - 800MHz                   275,00 EUR
Amd upgrade-kit Phenom II X3 720 4096MB DDR2 - 800MHz                   319,00 EUR
Amd upgrade-kit Phenom II X4 940 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz                    385,00 EUR
Intel upgrade-kit Quad-core Q8200 (4 x 2.33 GHz) DDR2 4096 MB - 800 MHz    309,00 EUR
Tunig kit AMD athlon 64 X2 7750+ DDR2 4096MB - 800MHz                  229,00 EUR
Tuning kit intel core2duo E8400 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz                  359,00 EUR
Tuning kit intel core2quad Q8200 Corsair XMS2 DDR2 4096 MB - 800 MHz    449,00 EUR
Upgrade Kit AMD Phenom II X4 810 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz           449,00 EUR
Upgrade Kit Intel core i7 920 6144MB DDR3 6144 MB - 1333 MHz                579,00 EUR
Upgrade set Intel quad core Q8200 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz           235,00 EUR
Upgrade-kit AMD athlon II X2 240 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz                  185,00 EUR
Upgrade-kit Intel core2duo E7500 4096MB DDR2 - 800MHz                  275,00 EUR
Upgradekit AMD Athlon II X4 620 4096MB DDR2 - 800 MHz                  259,00 EUR

Out of that list, which would you advise and why? Also for the Dutchies, anyone know of a better store to get these things than conrad.nl?

Aye sorry was late. Currently running AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 2046MB on an Asus mobo. Can't figure out what type though, it's not in dxdiag :<

i am more conserned about your psu.

but how much have you thought to spend?

Azunai

PSU is a 550W if I recall correctly... Bought a somewhat stronger one back then (3 years ago). And the budget is well.. up to ~500 maybe. If it'll make a huge difference I can part with another 100 or so.

Go for a Nehalem (i7) CPU if you can afford it - they are crazy fast.

It does yes, they all come with a motherboard. That's the whole idea, it's a motherboard with the CPU and Ram already installed on it, so I don't have to do that myself :P

the PSU, after 3 years a psu has aprox lost 20% capacity due to capacitor aging, so it around 450 now...
Now it comes down to what graphics you got atm, if its a good brand, you might pull it off for a little while, but dont be surprise if the computer is highly unstable. If its a bad brand psu, well your out of luck :)

The upgarde kit looks fine for the price

This PC is actually the first that's been running smoothly for over 3 years. Never had to reinstall or whatsoever :)

GFX is a 9800GT 1Gig, got it last year.
