todd got a short ban the other evening when we were testing B3;
It was for typing various !commands and !random words with the exclamation mark in front.
Is this necessary as the commands wouldn't work for the Level 0 player anyway? and a temp ban seems a bit harsh for this behaviour.
Maybe a kick would suffice?
What do you think?

Oth's in game messages are just the job. It may be a good idea to put Snokio's dMw advert in too, we just need to make sure we have a form of words that doesn't fill the screen.
As we already have the forum address being shown, maybe we could leave that bit off the end to make the message a bit more succinct.
If we have control over the order that the messages appear, perhaps we could have the forum address following the community advert?

:D

Are you SURE it was for the random !words? :P

But I agree, it might be harsh. I do believe it is quite possible to just kick em, you can pretty much do what you want if I understand the bits and bobs of B3 correct. That's the brilliance of it. If not, its only python scripts, so it can always be meddled with

I think he won't do it again and we should keep it as it is :D

Can you check that the time is not too excessive then? I think it was 6 mins or more, which is ridiculous. that's a long time on the internet. maybe 30secs would be enough.

I think maybe PBs time is good? 2 minutes? You won't do it again after being banned for 2 minutes, since as you say, 2 minutes are a long time on the internets!

It was set to an hour but I have changed it to 2 minutes. The parameter affects ALL temp bans. The only way to stop someone being temp banned for using the !commands, is to have a rule set up in the warning section (default config) and if you receive too many warnings for anything then you get a temp ban.

There is a small overhead on the server from using the !commands so we shouldn't just let them be spammed by non-admins.

Makes sense, since the service probably parses every !command as a potential valid command. 2 minutes should be enough to make them stop, if it isn't we can always issue longer manual bans.

Quote from: Whitey;299250I've modified the config to reflect what Oth had posted as it was better than the defaults.

Here's what we currently have for messages we can spam:
<set name=join">^3Sign up on our forum at http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum</set>
        <set name="forum">^3Check out our forum at http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum</set>
<set name="stack">^7Don't clan stack, members must split evenly between the teams, go spectator and wait if you have to</set>
        <set name="racism">^3No racism of any kind</set>
        <set name="eng">^3Use only English on this server!</set>
        <set name="abuse">^3No abusive language or behavior</set>
        <set name="hop">^3Do not bunnyhop!</set>
        <set name="wall">^3Do not wallspam!</set>
        <set name="nade">^3Do not nadespam!</set>
<set name="badname">^3No offensive or potentially offensive names, annoying names, or in-game (double caret (^)) color in names</set>
<set name="lang">^3Watch your language! Bad language will result in a kick or ban</set>
        <set name="ff10">^3Do ^1NOT ^3fire at teammates or within 10 seconds of spawning</set>
        <set name="frag">^Follow your objective and don't run around fraghunting!</set>

I would actually love to see those messages as a warning as well to be honest. We should also have something in the line of
Do not camp the oppositions spawn!
As it is also something we often tell people.

Whitey, would it be possible to have a server message running saying "Sign up on our forum for the Xmas CoD4 Tournament on 27th Dec" or similar?:)

I've added it as one of the spam messages for now "xmas". I'll look at what needs doing to get it in the message rotation.

Is there a way to remove the little random messages it comes up with? The ones like "Do not expose b3 to sunlight" and "Don't poke b3 with sticks". They're pretty distracting and a tad puerile... or perhaps it's just me :)

It wasn't obvious where these messages were coming from but now that I've found it, they have been removed. I have added the message about the tourney into it and left the entries for the time and nextmap.
