So why exactly does the rest of the World's release of BBC2 (that's going to be a problem!) come out a few days before the UK?

I'm sick of seeing that timer telling me I have 12 hours, 11 hours, etc....

It's only a game so why hold it back? :taz:

Albert, havening the entire globe getting 1 MP game released on the same day is a big problem for the game and the firm who made it.

Since BFBC2 for those who already can play is just a big pile of crap with all its bugs and stuff, haveing everyone play it the same time just spells doom overall.

Just read the steam forums on BFBC2 and you can see that you aint missing out on anything, unless you want the bug filled MP

I believe it's done so as to protect the UK/EU 'street dates' for retail stores.

Publishers are scared that if the download version is available before the retail version, sales will be lost. EU and US street dates are usually different, something to do with sales patterns I guess (Brits like to go out and buy their games at the end of the week, Yanks at the start? *shrug*)

No, it doesn't make sense but then publishers rarely do..

And sales are lost.
I cancelled mine (online at Amazon) as they were quoting 9th-11th for delivery.

Exactly! I did say that it didn't make any sense :)

Not only do they lose sales, but it encourages piracy. Both BFBC2 and Supreme Commander 2 are both available in all good warez sites - well in advance of their release dates.

I bet there are plenty of people who have downloaded illegally, purely because they can't be arsed for it to show up in stores/steam :(

I personally can't see 2 days making a difference, after all, bugfix releases don't come out 48 hours after general release do they, so delaying can't be because they are scared of giving everyone in the world a pile of cr@p.

I has to be the fact that we, the British game buying public, are the most stupid, vulnerable, gullable market on earth and we'll still pay top dollar (or pound) for something even though we don't get access to it the day we pay for it.

In so far as download time etc. is concerned, the Internet shifts far more PicaBytes of BitTorrent data than Steam ever shift with their content servers so I doubt bandwidth is an issue either.

Face it, we're just sitting ducks out there,.......

Oh and Steam is based in Ireland so our laws probably say retail release in the UK has to happen before non-UK sales can flood the market. Even though they have probably done so by the time the physical game hits the shops, which are mostly full of console games, after all Game and HMV are all that's left, perhaps Tesco and Sainsbury's but they rarely hold PC games,,,,, phew , out of breath.

Liberator

My DVD was posted today, so it could arrive tomorrow and I may be playing later the same day. :D

And my "Supreme Commander 2" was also posted, but it's a Steam game so won't work until unlocked.

albert

So I (fortunately) was too tired and old to wait till 12 midnight for that silly timer to count down to zero, and this morning the game still isn't unlocked on Steam even though it's released. I'm in a huff. :ranting2:

[BIG]magnus

I thought it would not be unlocked until tomorrow.  I was hoping my cd would arrive today but sadly not.

Two days into the marathon and I'm at 88% and still downloading, my snail-speed internet system will catch you all in the end.......maybe within the next 24 hours!
