this is a pic of the device manager so I'mguess it is. Phew that was hard work.

I doubt my lappie is so I'll buy a card for that and also for the older machines on the system. Hopefully that combined with the links above for a new switch will be fine with my cat5.

The other machine is only 100mb. What's the difference though between these - aren't they the same thing?

For PCI, I'd go for this Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter

isn't a network adapter and desktop adapter the same? Worth the extra Ã,£15 for the gt?

I don't really want to have to replace all the cabling but will try this first.

The laptop you got from me should be gigabit too.

Netbook may be, you can check in the same way. If not, I wouldn't worry about it though as you won't be able to replace the card anyway!
