I'm really fed up with the non performance of our BC2 server.
IMO this is down to a lack of continuing enthusiasm from the admin team.
I've made pointed remarks in steam chat ("shouldn't you be trying to start a game on our server?") etc.
but lately the only admin I've come accross online has been GMj, and he was playing on a random pubby. He was offline by 9.00 as he usually is.
We can't let this situation continue much longer, it's just a pure waste of money.
The BIG guys have predictably all melted away, and there seems to be little support for our server.

I don't have any answers, but I had to vent, and this was the only place I could do so (don't close this section!)

and breathe...

This section will be closed imminently unfortunately, however an identical section the Game Leaders section which is where this thread should be placed.  The same people get to see it, so the rant is still worth it!  No answers here either, but any ideas appreciated.

Good post Pete and good points as always. I have to say I'm in complete agreement and the only times I game (Mon & Thurs) I go to check the BC2 server and it's empty. Perhaps it's my timings but I never see people online. I like BC2 I would like to play it. However I'm not prepared to go to some random public server to play it so I don't.

I just don't know whether there is a future for this game for us. I'd love to say yes and to relive the heyday of BF2 etc but somehow it all seems stacked us against - the dedicated server, the lack of in-game comms etc, the re-spawning on a teamie in the middle of the action.

I know you say you don't have the answers but if any cross your mind do let us know as they're always welcome. :)

The answer is to have a dedicated night, to enforce teams in teamspeak and to password the server or *very* strongly admin it. Plan ahead in essence. Fail to plan, plan to fail. <- Can you tell I'm interviewing this week ;)

I like the game for a quick blast, but it's never, on the occassions I've been on, been team based.

It has potential, but not as an idling server, with nobody starting up a game. If you look at Arma or CS, the reasons the games start is because someone joins and starts playing. Steam is used to ding friends. They benefit because you can play solo for short periods. You can't do that on BC2 so need a committed base to start a game.

We've just reviewed where we are with BC2 in Council and are coming to a conclusion shortly.  The renewal date is up soon, so we'll know by then.
