Agreed TL, this PS3 setup would be using a wheel, it looks like we can stick NF or Snooks wheel in and that would work.  It was suggested to use the PS3 as it has GT5 which has the Top Gear Test Track so we could do our own version of stars in a reasonable priced car.  Also it freed up Ninja not having to share his machine, which I know he wouldnt mind but still.

My thoughts on this now at the moment is this.

We abandon the PS3, would of been fun but the set up is a PITA.  I still have a few ideas to try but I am not hopeful.

If Ninja is cool with it, using his leech machine, install Shift and his wheel, copy his profile across :)  to open it all.  Then stick my 8800gtx in to Ninja machine and run it from there.  Thus giving us the setup that will work and leaving Ninja with a machine he can use all weekend.

Ninja would you be cool with this?

Either way we will have this competition running with the wheel and projector :)

I may actually have to buy & install that as it was great fun last time.  Hot Pursuit (£30 on Steam) or Shift (£15 on Steam) though?

No Problem.. :) Let's just roll with this as we know it will work.. I'll get to work on a track / car combo.

Thanks ninja sounds great really looking forward to it.

TL shift you should be able to pic it up cheaper than that.  And pursuit is apperantly lots of fun but no LAN support

That looks a better splitter, but it's pricey.

Shame, I really wanted to see the comp using the Top Gear track - would have been excellent fun.

I might bring my PS3 down anyway, and hook it up to my PC monitor for Fifa/Madden/Street-Fighter fun.

Well there is a account of using it with a PS3 there.  The other issue I found I had was that my 2nd monitor doent support PS3, my main does thats how I have tested it.  I think it is to do with HDCP

So maybe I'm pushing it here....what I'd like to see is recorded efforts, on a dual screen with the fastest one (winner) posted up in the forums afterward. We have 8 billion technically minded members*, so what's the obstruction?

*may not be fact.

We can do it with a pc using fraps.  But with a ps3 it gonna cost there are boxes that will do it.

Now, I was drunk last night, but my logic still stands. I see that we should carry on down the NFS path, but let's see what the community come up with in terms of getting the dual screen working.

I have a magnetic notice board I can bring if we get it working..

Bring the board anyways mate.

I have one more test to do but the issue is that my spare monitor is not HDCP complient and it has to be. Ninja whats your spare monitor mate make and model.  I may have found away to split it but its a hail mary of a pass and may not pull off.

As to recording the laps, quite difficult as the box to do it is expensive and also displaying at the same time on 2 differnt things is going to be a big ask from a cheap set up.

As you say stay with NFS:shift, I will keep trying.

Guys,

On the prizes, what are your thoughts on a reg plate with DMW XIX on it?

Not sure on costs but they can't be that much can they? Was thinking that we could get three done. 1st and 2nd with the First place racer getting a bottle or something. The third plate we could put DMR XIX for the Live for Speed race..

Thoughts?

guys.. please give me your thoughts on Reg Plates as prizes or should I just stick with the car? The latter seems a bit expensive tbh.

BrotherTobious

I cool with either there is a smaller one for less.   But the reg plates sound a good idea

It's your call. I like the reg plates if you can find somewhere to do them. I know you can't just walk into Halfords and get them done as they changed the law recently and you need to provide a log book etc.
