yeah, theres a few of us trying to connect even though it's showing online....

There are still a few bugs with Brink:

Some sounds stop working (shooting)
Difficulty in joining custom games / Not seeing custom servers when invited
Text missing in both menu's and in games
Teamspeak coms go quiet (although may not be game related, but could be Steam / TS related)

So i wouldn't be suprised that not being able to connect to our server is a game issue.
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

T-Bag

I like the game. It's fun to play etc, but it feels a bit like a beta at the moment. They released it early claiming it was ready. Maybe the should have released it now but called it a beta for people who pre-ordered. Then work solidly to overcome the bugs.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

Thanks KKND, I've updated our config with some of the extra settings although i don't think any of them relate to why the server times out.  It's currently showing available again if anyone would like to test it out.

still timing out I'm afraid

Edit: not sure if this helps at all, 'Brink â€" Windows Dedicated Server Guide', it was posted at 3:30pm today from KKND's initial post: http://downloads.gamingdeluxe.net/Brink/brink%20-%20windows%20dedicated%20server%201.1.pdf

Edit 2: The only thing I can see that is missing (If it makes any odds) is a couple of lines in the 'gameplay configuration' :

si_maxplayers 16
si_maxPlayersHuman 16
 Bring on the randomness!

Zero did make some changes, this is what he did and their server is now up and running on Dedi Box.

Basically  on your dedi server, you need to install the following redist packages -  directx, vcredist_x86[2008].exe, and .NET Framework 4.
I  found the directx and vcredit in my homefront game folder, then had to  download the correct framework 4 version and install that.
Also  make sure that hldsupdatetool is installed into your  progfiles\tcadmin\monitor folder and then run steam update on your brink  server.

EDIT: When you get the server up and running there's still one point thats need a fix.

People are able to connect to it for challenges and co-op play which  takes the number of slots down to 4 or 8.  When it empties, it returns  to 16 for normal multiplay.

The latest versions of DirectX and the .Net Framework 4 are already installed.  The Visual C++ redistributable 64 bit package was already installed but i've also installed the 32bit now. I also re-ran the update script for brink but no further updates are available.

Tutonic

I tried to connect to that IP/port tonight and it timed out :(

It seems to be offline all the time,if the server gets restarted it goes offline after some time.

Some more info, dont know if it works or if you have done it..

Description: Brink - How to set up dedicated server.
                    Forward Your Ports

You need to forward these three ports to correctly setup Brink Dedicated Server.

   TCP/UDP 27015, 27016, 8766.

Don’t forget to forward 8766, because the server authenticates with Steam via this port.

Optimizing Brink Server Machine

Brink uses a scaling jobs system that can run multiple threads if  multiple cores are available on the server. If you are to host the  server on multi-core machine, don’t leave this option to unlimited or  Brink may end up loading the CPU.

You can control the value using the command line tweak  â€˜exec_maxThreads’. This cvar will have to be set on the command line as  â€˜+set exec_maxThreads ‘ to limit the number of instances of Brink  Servers running on your machine.

Setup Brink Dedicated Server

Follow the simple instructions in this section to setup and launch your very own Brink Dedicated Server.

Dedicated Server .bat Files
The default Brink dedicated server comes with three .bat files that can be used to launch the game:

    Brink_ded1.bat
    Brink_ded2.bat
    Brink_ded3.bat

These .bat files have simple server configuration settings, like server  name, server port and server port master. You can use .bat files as an  example to customize and create your own custom server configuration  file to launch your server.

Or, you can edit the si_name cvar in one of the .bat files, set the  three port cvars to match the port forwarding rules you setup in your  Firewall, save and execute the .bat file to launch your Brink Dedicated  Server.

Dedicated Server Console
Once you run the .bat file, you would be presented with Brink Dedicated Server Console.

You can enter and execute server commands from this dedicated server  console. It also comes with a built-in help option, so you don’t have to  type the exact command, type a word and pressing tab will show you all  the available suggestions or console commands available for that word.

Execute existing config file and launch the server. To know all the  available game modes and settings in Brink Multiplayer check our Brink  Multiplayer Guide.

By default Brink offers following config rules files which can be found  in the ‘\base folder’. You can execute any of these or customize one to  meet your needs and execute it in the Brink Server Console to launch the  Dedicated Server.

    server_campaign_resistance_coop.cfg
    server_campaign_security_coop.cfg
    server_challenge_coop2.cfg
    server_challenge_coop3.cfg
    server_challenge_coop4.cfg
    server_objective_advanced_vs.cfg
    server_objective_competition_vs.cfg
    server_objective_oldskool_vs.cfg
    server_objective_standard_vs.cfg (Default)
    server_stopwatch_advanced_vs.cfg
    server_stopwatch_competition_vs.cfg
    server_stopwatch_oldskool_vs.cfg
    server_stopwatch_standard_vs.cfg

ou can also create your own config file for your server or add rules to  the game from the console but it is recommended that you start with any  of these pre-defined config rules files.

For starters, execute the default config file by typing this in console:
Exec server_objective_standard_vs.cfg
Hit enter to apply the config.

Launch Brink Dedicated Server

Now that you have applied the game settings to your server, it’s time to  launch this baby. Type spawnServer in console alongwith the name of the  map you want to run it.
spawnServer mp/aquarium.entities

Players will be able to connect to the server, once the server has finished loading the map.

That's from the pdf that comes with the dedicated server and was what I used to initially set up the server..

Whitey

There seem to be issues (from reading other forums) with dedicated servers running on multiple IP addresses (as we are).  There is a cvar to fix the IP but it doesn't look like it's been fully implemented yet so hopefully it will be fixed soon.  There is also a Dedicated Linux server on the way and we may have more luck with it.  I'll update this thread when I have more info.

Blunt

So, do I buy it?
or wait till it's a freebie?
