hello guys, i today when i woke up im getting creapy laggspikes and ive tried everything to get of with them? turn down the graphics, turn off addons, delete programs/files on hard drive. restored the computer, searched for Virus, and nothing works? any1 that got some experience of this?

Is it FPS lag or connection lag? Hover over the little computer button in the micro-menu in WoW (bottom of your screen). Look at the MS. If your World MS is high, Blizzard and your connection aren't really getting along, not much you can do about it I think. If Home MS is high, something's wrong with your connection. Anyone in the house downloading a lot, or you running some other internet-connected application that's hogging bandwidth? Turning down graphics aren't gonna fix this problem really. It might be an addon that gets in the way of something, looping requests to the server and thus taking up a lot of bandwidth.

If your Home and World MS are both fine, check the FPS. If it's low (you'll probably be aware of it already) it's something to do with your graphics. Is any other demanding program running at the same time? You could try updating your gfx card drivers, or maybe your PC is getting hot and needs some dust removal...

Could be a lot of things but based on what exactly is lagging, you can at least figure out where to look ;-)

ty mate, but its not my connection coz every thing works fine except my games.. i tried Dirt 3 to but it lagged alot .. hmm.. yesterday i had NO lags. but today its creapy awfull..

Prenight

ill link type the numbers here mate okej?

Prenight

ok: these are the numbers
 Ms: home 52
 ms: world 48
 fps : 8
and yester day it was about Fps:60 so i dont know where the problems are? hm..

Prenight

when the lag spike is over im on same good latancy/fps but after a few mins it back again..
can my computer been broken or? what?

Happens in other games too? Hmm it could be software related, like some background process trying to intervene, taking system resources... But if your AV returns no virusses or things...

Try this:
When the game is running, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and bring up the task manager. Under the Processes tab, sort by Memory usage, or Processor usage. See if any unusual processes appear that take up a lot of resource (like, 50% CPU load, or 1Gig + of Memory usage). If there are any, end them to see if that helps. Don't just go about wildly ending processes, as some are of course used to keep your PC running ;-)

The other option is that it's hardware related. I'd try seeing what temperature your hardware is at, to see if it spikes. That *could* explain the hickups...
RealTemp (download link) is a lightweight tool that measures your CPU temperature.
HWMonitor also gives readout on your videocard and various other items.
Running with your case open might also give you an indication of whether or not it's temperature related. If it is indeed a temperature problem, try dusting off some of your parts. I like to use a (clean) paintbrush for this, don't use anything that is like to create static electricity though.

Those are two options I can think of off the top of my head.

Ive got major lag for battlenet games....i dont know what dirt 3 is....

cant connect to Star craft and took almost 2hrs to connect to wow to have 17k world ms....since being on (about 45mins) about 20 people have asked in trade about the lag,so some of us may be a bit buggered with battlenet atm for what ever reason
Im friends with the monster under my bed.
He gets on with the voices in my head.

Dirt 3 is Colin McRae rally game, got nothing to do with Blizz ;-) So I think his problem is different, given that his MS is normal as well.

i just orderd a new PC and i get it next thursday/friday. coz my grhapic card is probably broken or i need to change to another windows .. hmm..

Shadowsong

Sounds like a software problem. Dead (or broken if you will) graphics cards tend to produce glitches all over the screen called "artefacts". Artefacts are lines crossing all over the screen or textures having different colours than normal.

Low framerates can be caused by many things, like Azunai said heat can be a cause (when overheated parts will "throttle" and will work at a much lower speed than normal to prefent them killing themselves), but also other background software like
virusscanners or other software that is doing stuff without telling (updating, scanning system, etc).

But seeing you've oredered a new PC, you might as well try to hold out untill then ;)
You should not fear the dark itself...but what\'s in it!

Prenight

yes but should be nice get the old PC working mate, but do u have any tips that i can try to do? i reinstalled win7 / wow, but nothing of those worked..  but i getting lagspikes sometimes its totaly normal 1 min after its on about 7-10 fps ? can it be ghapic card or? ive tried to check for new drivers and tried last drivers but i didnt work either ?

TeaLeaf

Bit of a longshot, but does your router or your ISPs network indicate anyone is trying to DDOS your IP?  It produces just what you said, sometimes nothing, but then big stuttering and lagging.

I was going to suggest addons, but if it is in other games too then it must be either in your system or your inet connection.   Have you tired pathping & tracert to some common websites to see if you are seeing any specific routing issues?   netstat -a gives you the WOW IP you are trying to reach.

Everything else I would suggest has already been suggested I think :(

Good luck fixing it.

torgen mentioned it, but have you tried to open the pc case to dust out the inside? i once had freezes from time to time, they got worse & worse. turned out my cpu fan had a pretty big layer of dust on it.. smtn like this http://blog.savel.org/stuff/20070618a.jpg :D
