Well, the Xperia S is out on Monday so that's what I've gone for. I've looked at the others and I really don't think a quad core proc in a phone is a good idea. At least, not until they get the battery tech sorted. Maybe when they have micro fuel cells it'll be ok, but for now I think it'll just cane the battery too fast!

Hopefully I'll have the phone on Monday so I shall report back on my initial thoughts.

Well, phone turned up yesterday. Bootloader unlocked and phone rooted.... and take heed other manufacturers... Sony tell you how to unlock your bootloader! http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

Initial impressions are, wow. The screen just has to be seen to be believed. It is so crisp and vibrant. Speed is fantastic with no lag at all. I'm still restoring all my apps via titanium backup so have not had much chance to play yet so will report back.

There is a screen protector fitted from the factory, and a spare one in the box. No NFC tags in the box but apparently they will follow in a few weeks (we'll see). HDMI cable in the box so you can hook it up to your TV. Lovely weight, it feels like a solid piece of kit, unlike the SGS II which just feels too light and every time I pick my wifes SGS II up I feel like I can't breath or I'll blow it out of my hands!

The only negative so far is that the USB port has a cover that you need to pop out to plug the phone in. As I do this every day I can see this cover eventually breaking through material fatigue. Still, it's nice and descreet when it's in place and will keep dust out of the port.

That's it for now, once I've restored everything and have removed some of the unneeded standard apps I'll have a proper play :)

And running with Android 2.3.6 ?

Gandalf

2.3.7 but ICS is imminent. I'm not too fussed really. Was running on 2.3 on my desire for ages and it's a nice stable OS now. As soon as an ICS rooted rom is available I'll chuck that on there :)

Been tempted by this one too as I'm still running my HTC Hero

Keep us posted G!

Quote from: DannagE;345633The HTC line up looks good, but that battery is far too small for the size of the screen and a quad core. Not to mention quad core in a phone is pointless. they are just throwing numbers at people now because they can.

Like the 41 megapixel Sony phone that's coming. :what:

The galaxy nexus doesn't have an sd card slot, so loses lots of potential customers there.

Apple are going to have to come up with a completely new design for the next iPhone, everything is going bigger.

I've had the galaxy note now for just under 3 months and it's the best gadget I have ever used. I wouldn't be able to use a small screen/phone again. It did feel massive to start, compared too the desire, but once you play with it and realise how useful the large screen is then you don't realise the size anymore. Yes touchwiz it's terrible, but there are lots of other launchers out there to make it like how you want it.

Ice cream sandwich 4.0.3 is a big step up from gingerbread. Much faster and clearer. Can wait for the official roms to start appearing.

Anyhow, you are going to have to wait months before and of these new phone come to the markets so lots of things could change.
