Dust 514 and EVE - Connected Gaming

CCP has built a PS3 MMOFPS game called Dust 514. Players play mercenaries battling on planets. The utterly amazing  thing is, this game is actually integrated into the EVE universe. Dust  players are actually mercenaries being hired and fighting in real time  on the planets in the EVE galaxy. EVE players will be able to put up  contracts for Dust mercenaries to assault other corporations'  facilities, and Dust mercs will be paid by the EVE pilots for their  services. What's more, Dust mercs can request live orbital strikes from  EVE pilots who are above the planet

It sounds very intersting and almost a reason to buy a PS3

Why is it that a relatively small Developer like CCP can have such excellent ideas while the huge giants like EA, Activision etc can only devise cunning ways to part their customers from even more of their money.

Most game designers these days arnt in it for the fun/thrill of the game anymore, or they are but all there distributor/managers etc see is numbers

CCP is defenetly in it for the fun and they are thier own distributors
At the last Fanfest they estimated that the EVE universe could be the largest MMO realm/shard by the end of the year due to Dust 514

Dust will be free to play, and most likely recive free expantions, as EVE does, one or twice a year.

They already acknowledged that CCP will continue their existing planned business model, which were EvE continues payed subscription, and Dust 514 free to play (micro payments exists in the game tho like EvE)

Dust 514 has now entered the beta stage, and all eve pilots should be receiving their beta invites soon

yeh, its a great concept, only problem is that DUST 514 is PS3 exclusive, for now

It has KB/Mouse support coming apperantly. Its a nice game though, allthough it takes a bit more getting used to then a normal FPS due to the skill system.
