First off - I'm one of those folk who can't seem to get BF2 running on my Win7 - I know there is lots of talk about how people can get it to run, and I have tried all the dodgy 'hints' I have found on line, but no luck.

But the main topic for me is just how much I miss BF2...OK, some of this may be rose-coloured nostalgia but I really didn't get along with BF3. I just can't put my finger on why (maybe it's my age).

I just wondered if anyone else out there still has a hankering for the classic BF2?

BF2 was a great game. The whole structure of calling in airstrikes and having a commander was brilliant. Sadly, it doesn't work on most W7 setups.

I'm really enjoying BF3 Aftermath. If you don't have it, consider finding a premium upgrade for £20. The AM maps are really well put together. Also, with premium you get "end game" which will bring back some huge maps and proper capture the flag.

BF2 was great but the graphics and gameplay in BF3 aftermath are excellent.  You could always get your phat a$$ to the Autumn LAN and we can give you some tips.. :D

On my Win7 x64 i have the BF2 executable set to run in compatibiliy mode of "WinXP SP3".

I think I had to edit some files as well for GFX, can't remember, but it is very dated.

We tried to revive it at LAN XX for a one off I think, but people had too many issues with it.

I managed to get BF2 running... ish. It felt old.

A great game, but we've moved on since and it feels out of date now.

BF2 runs on Windows 8, but while the game mechanic is superior, the graphics are almost unbearable.

I guess nostalgia's not what it used to be...
