Following a.. drunken chat with Riggy, i decided to go ahead and download this (its like 32g !)

The conversation went along the lines "its so omfg, i have this "char" and she`s such a ho, so much in fact she fights in huge high heels..."
After pressing for more information, we were told to "just go get it and see", so we did

Anyhow turns out the riggy it totally correct.. in that the female characters appear to have had moths attack their clothes, making them threadbare, and little to the imagination.... :blink:

Game play wise its .. different, as in totally different from WoW, but share some comparisons.. as in the quest- go fetch/find/ kill or even climb a tall mountain and pick me that flower i spied when flying past.. yes i got that flower for her..

Combat is a bit surreal, as you can pick and choose your targets rather than proximity aggro like wow(i dont know about higher levels, but at 12 and below you can fight tactically, and pick what mobs you want).

seeing as i`m a sorceress.. i get fireball as my standard spell and a small aoe at my feet spell, handy for when the mobs rush you- some have several annoying little helpers, and it fries them nicely... toasted minion, yum !

Combat
You have a targeting cross hairs, which gets a round border when your in range(usually about 20 yards) click it- pull said mob and FIGHT to the DEATH.. yes i died a few times off a named mob- kite or die basically.

Its not like wow at all, spells can "miss" if you mess up when running, casting and keeping alive- great fun !

Graphics wise its amazing, with very high model detail, and this comes into play when you fight, seeing your character jump, spin, dive etc, all looks very very nice.

The world around you looks amazing, high def, but some of the "cut scenes" super impose your character, or other npc into the screen (manga style) so its fitting but can look "tatty" or cheap if you want to call it that, but its not wow by any means.

The starting zone can be compared to the Dranai one from wow- find mister X- you start out helping him, a fight breaks out- now you have to find him, do core quest and i suppose you could be finished in a few hours- however i was a complete noob, and did most of the side line ones too, good for exp and learning to fight.. etc


Race wise there`s seven of them

Human (yea we get everywhere!)

Castanic - They look pretty much like a half elf- very human in looks, but with pointy ears, and "metal horns"(maybe a hat , i dunno)

Aman these look like Evil Dranai, dark and brooding- with a dark past apparently.. now they are good :blink:

Popori - err like a cross between a Ewok and a rat/ pug dog from wow.. weird and a bit freeky, i thought i saw a beaver with an axe ! they have  no females..

Elin - a true manga fantasy, they look like 10 year old girls dress up as lolita`s, with weird bunny ear hats, be afraid, be very afraid!(more so the slayers)

Baraka - Huge stone like skin humanoids (refer to dranai for some facial looks) they look impressive, but are a bit "bulky"..not fat, nooo) Male only .... dont ask

High Elf - the "classic" Elven look (*see legolas and Arowen) look great, although the males are very androgynous


Class wise there`s eight

Warrior- duel wield dps or evasion tank (latter hard to do apparently) leather armour

Lancer - Tank with a Lance and shield- impressive ! Plate armour

Slayer - 2hd sword dps, melee, Leather armour

Berserk - 2d axe, melee dps,  plate armour

Sorcerer - mage really- cloth armour

Archer - hunter with no pet- leather armour

Priest - Main healer, but can solo too, cloth arm
our
Mystic - Support healer ( i dont know so dont ask) cloth armour

I am on the EN Arcadia realm

My current characters are

Anstar lvl 12 high elf mage - i have left the starting island, and are now out in the big bad world- yes its huge, the maps looks small, but they are big !

Meliki lvl 7 human slayer seems fun, once you get the hang of dodging stuff- or die - still on the island

You get a quest for a mount at lvl 11, after doing it you get a "book", not auto trained like wow.. i was scratching my head for a min or two wondering what had gone wrong.. look in the bag!

About a week ago I rolled some dreadfully non politically correct, semi naked, curvaceous elf girl, who fights in stilettos and a dress split to the armpit. She shoots magic 'n' stuff, but frankly who cares. So far I just watch her running away from me and running back again.... running away from me and running back again. Then she jumps up and down and then she runs some more. There may be a game out there somewhere but frankly at this rate I'll never get out of the start zone.

It seems my slayer has taken over, and is up and running into the distance, as i`m now level 19 with it- 60 is the max(at the moment)

Once you get the hang of dodging loads of attack, and not standing there slugging it out tank style (you may be a slayer, but you are NOT the tank) you have better chances of living, rather than getting your ass handed to you !

I think i have got the hang of some of the crafting stuff (man it is weird)

I have also really got the hang of the "gem" or crystal "enchants", basically but one off a vendor, stick it into either your weapon (red) or armour slots (blue), and if you find a upgrade item, simply press P- and right click the gems in the items, to remove them. Put the new item on and right click the gems, no more wasting millions of gold on new gems (like in wow).
I currently have three +20 hp/5 gems in the armour and two +36mp/5 gems in the sword (mana is alot like rage) and it works for me, constant tick hp & mana, awesome for big pulls! i`ve had to use a few hp pots to get me through some of the tougher fights, but, like i stated about- avoidance is essential unless your a lancer (tank).


The ui is very user friendly, all you have to do is go into chat mode (press esc or alt) and drag the offending item about- nearly all of it it can be moved, including your task bar, so that`s is a major ++ for the game, as having the perfect UI is a major factor in any MMO.

There`s a mega thread on MMOc champion about tera, seems a bit of a mixed beast, with massive instance ques (remember vanilla wow), of course there`s a lot of wow players giving this a shot, with it being all new and shiney, myself included, so if you have a few days to download the massive game content, then try it.

But get above level 25, as a lot of the classes become better around 30+, although berserkers and warriors develop late on (58 apparently)

I've spent a bit more time in the game and setting aside the very obviously and rather creepy way the designers seem to have created only very sexually alluring female characters for the game (sexism, misogyny, the objectification of women etc) it's not that bad.
It's not that great either though. There's a huge and tedious grind to level up with nothing like the imagination that has gone into some of the recent WOW quest lines. It's all about 'There's some enemies over there, go kill me a dozen for no apparent reason at all'. This is so unlike SWTOR and it's powerful story line that there really is no point reading any of the quest dialogue. You really won't care why you need twenty pixie heads and the designers certainly didn't either. Also the NPC's are trivial to defeat. It really is hard to get yourself killed in Tera.
 
The game looks great though. Apart from the ridiculous stiletto heels and plunging neck lines the characters look decent enough. The world is bright and detailed and there's been some real though put into the design of many of the mobs.

I rolled on a PvP realm and it's quite cool that you can flag yourself and go hunting. however if you go out alone you'll get slaughtered. PvP is really only any good in organised groups. Anything else is suicide. And the group thing is also more or less mandatory for levelling after Lv 20. Once you get that far there's a load of group content that works nicely and is far more interesting that the solo grind.

However this game is free to play and so the financial future of the game is uncertain. I'm not at all sure what they are going to do to compel us to buy stuff? And the game really has nothing to drag players away from WOW. I'm sure most of the servers are full of WOW'ers waiting for 5.2 to drop. And as soon as it does I suspect Tera will go the way of so many fine but not excellent MMO's and become a ghost land. I'd certainly recommend downloading the vast game files (23 gig) and going for a whirl. But I don't imagine it will be around for ever.

My char is on Zenobia, called Riggy and is a Priest almost lvl 43.  The scenery is amazing, currently in a zone like Northrend but the area looks much better in terms of the scenery and detail.  the game play is very different indeed.  The instances seem pretty simple to begin with although the difficulty and mechanics are ramping up significantly with level and entering an instance the second you ding and meet the level requirement is not something I am doing now

There is so much I could say but there are plenty of guides and reviews around and since it's free to play, just try and and see for yourself.  In terms of F2P and subscribers the bonly real benefit to subscribing is the new horsey, a book that lets you teleport to any town or city whenever you like, extra bank space, lock box keys once per month and daily xp, gold and loot bonus for an hour.

For me, at least for now, its a bit of a change in terms of play style and something different to look at and fight!

Doesn't require much. If you can play WOW - MoP then Tera will run fine.

Depends how pretty you want it to look tbh.  My laptop runs it but on low settings = looks basic.  But on the desktop it looks amazing.
