Are you applying for a Raider position, or Social membership?

A raider position

Tell us a bit about yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? How old are you? What kind of work do you do?

I'm René, 26 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I’m currently a part time employee at Staples and besides that I’m a group fitness instructor. I lead Body Pump and Body Combat classes at a gym. It’s more of a hobby than a job however.

Tell us about your personality, and why you enjoy the game.

I'm a competitive player. I mostly enjoy the challenge of raiding. I like competing with other players rather than against them. However should there be a fun group of players to pvp with I always enjoy tagging along. As well as playing other games. I can be frank with feedback and I'm  also not shy of receiving any either. I won't however be offensive when mentioning something. Everyone can make a mistake. I know I do.

How long have you been playing computer games and what kind?

A long long time. Still it all happened in the same galaxy. So not far away at least. I’ve played many games. Started out on a 386 with games like commander Keen and eventually moved on to Red Alert and everything that came after that. I’ve always loved playing video games. Never was much of a console gamer though. But I do own an Xbox nowadays. I like it to play Halo and guitar hero games.

There are other guilds on the server, why did you apply to us?

I saw Jasett mentioning dM needing raiders and I was looking for a different yet fun raid group and guild. I asked what days the group raided and they suited me perfectly as well. After reading up on the website and seeing it’s a big community I got really interested

What other guilds have you been in and why did you decide or were forced to move on?

I was in Lemmings of the Light. It just wasn’t really my group of people. For me they were just a bit too stuck up. Feedback was quickly considered offensive. It was perhaps slightly too family friendly, anyways the officers and I both agreed that it would be best I moved on. So I left on good terms.

Who do you know in Dead Men Raiding? How do you know them?

I don’t know anyone. Yet, I hope.

Have you read our 'what we look for' and 'philosophy' posts? What do you think of them?

I have read them and can relate to them. I’m not looking for a group of diehards. I’m looking for a group that plays for fun but will still strive to improve and do their best.

What do you look for in a guild?

I always expect a guild to be a place for casual chat and fun. Where you can ask and offer help and basically feel at home.

Do you actively play any alts that we could find you in in case we need to contact you?

- Stabitha;
- Gnomicidal;
- Roombroodje;
- Healthpack.

''Dead Men Raiding'' - What comes to mind when you see that guild name?

What a lame name (joke ;)). No actually I didn't really have anything coming to mind. I've not been on Aszune for very long so the name hasn’t stuck with me yet. I used to know most raid guilds on the other realms I raided. Though lately I’ve been way more casual about it. So I haven't really checked it out or thought about it.

What are your plans for the game? In what way would you like others to know you?

Well my main goal is to raid. But I don't mind helping out with things where people need it. I like a good discussion at the right time as well and I’m someone who tries to think outside the box.

Name one thing you don't like about WoW in its current state.

That’s an easy one. Daily quests. They're like a chore.

A guildie says something you find offensive, what do you do?

Kindly whisper him I disagree with it and why. Hoping to make my point in a friendly way.

Cake or Pie?

Pie, as the cake is a lie. But you already knew that didn't you? This was just a test!

******END OF SOCIAL APPLICANT QUESTIONS******

ADDITIONAL questions for Raid Applicants:

Which evenings of the week are you available to raid?

Wednesdays and Thursdays currently are days I can raid. However at the gym these are the days my classes are also lead. A colleague of mine normally does these so it shouldn't be a problem.  But it might happen I sometimes have to step in when he’s not available. Monday evenings I'm never available. Any other evening I'm free. However I like to hook up with friends on Fridays or Saturdays. But that's different every week.
TLDR: Thursdays, Sundays and Tuesdays are the best days for me. I'm also available on Wednesdays and Friday/Saturday. Never on Monday.

Can you and will you speak actively with other guild members on Teamspeak and in guild chat?

I have no problem with that at all. Just let me know when I should shut up ;)

Do you have a stable Internet connection?

Short answer is yes. I hardly ever disconnect and usually don't lag. Unless it’s a server sided issue.

What sort of frame rates do you get when raiding?

Around 40/60fps. Enough to run the game fluently. I've got an HD6850 crossfire setup connected to 2 23” monitors.

What kind of raiding experience do you have?

I started in Vanilla. Where I saw MC. However as I was a total noob back then I didn't really raid a lot. In TBC I started raiding seriously and did all content. Clearing everything as a healer. I played my priest back then. In WoTLK it continued in much the same way. I played a little as shadow. Later during Ulduar/TotC I switched guild as the old one fell apart and changed to my paladin. I healed everything up to and including the LK. We did heroic versions as well. With which we got quite a bit too. Never managed to clear TotC or ICC25 on heroic however. Neither on 10. As 10’s were just casual and we already raided 4 nights a week. In Cataclysm I started raiding casually. I still cleared all content however and tried a few heroic bosses. Or which Morchok and Zon’ozz were the only ones we actually killed. Now in MoP I haven’t actually managed to do a lot. Lemmings wasn't very consistent with raiding. I started raiding it as retribution however.

If you are a cross-server applicant, name someone from your home server that can vouch for you.

Well I crossed over quite some time ago. Everyone else raiding there either quit or moved on. I've no contact with them anymore. The first few months of pandaria I didn't actually play the game.

If your armory does not show your intended spec then please make a template of it and link it.

The armory shows both my specs. I’m willing to play either. But from what I understand the raid group I'd actually be applying for would need a holy paladin. This is my under geared spec. However I’m working hard on this to improve it. As for the talents, it’s pretty easy to switch between them. I always carry a stack of tomes to switch between them should the fight allow it. Another reason why my gear is somewhat lower of item level compared to the time I’ve been playing, is because the Lemmings didn’t actually want people to do LFR. It’s only recently they started allowing people to do it. They wanted to clear the raids on normal first. This changed because progress was anything but fast. I did enjoy the casualness and friendliness of the raids however. It was all about having fun.

Why did you decide to play this class?

Back in the day it was because my priest would have been the 8th priest to join the raid group. My paladin healer would be the first. So I decided to make the switch. It stuck with me. I like paladins because of their direct healing. I started playing retribution as I'm better as a melee class than a ranged usually. At least when I look at me playing my mage compared to my paladin I find I'm doing better as a paladin.

What do you think your class' role is in raid content?

I’d go for healer. Though should things start getting easy and 2 man healable I'd gladly pick up a dps role during those moments.

Comment on your build. Why did you choose it? What do you think of other builds of your class? Why didn't you choose one of those? (important question)

I went for this build because I find the most use out of the utilities it offers. Of course like I mentioned earlier it’s easy to swap around with the talents where it's needed. Different fights might require or prefer different options. But currently I have light’s hammer on both specs because it helps with AoE damage and AoE healing. Eternal Flame is a nice HoT picked for my holy spec as I found it a lot more effective as I could cast it on more than one target and lasts for a good 30 seconds. There are many more examples and I could probably think of a few more. I've yet to see most fights though. So I can't actually give many raid examples.

I hope it wasn't too much of a wall of text. If there are any more questions you can always poke me on the forum or in game on any of these characters.

Thank you for your time and looking forward to hearing from you.

Had quite a few upgrades to my holy gear again. I figured that's the spec you'd be needing me. After the next reset I'll be doing more raid finder and will hopefully have upgraded even further by then. Depending on if/what loot I get I'll be able to also buy a belt or necklace with valor points. Just thought I'd let you know as it wasn't quite up to scratch yet when I submitted the app.

Its fantastic app but looking at our Raid class balance we cant run with another Pally at the moment. Your more than welcome to join the guild as a social member if that's of interest /w an officer ingame for invite.

Nice to see you interested in some of the other games we play so we may be seeing more of you :)

I'm afraid I'll decline the social spot. Raiding is a very important part for me in this game so I'll continue looking for another raid group. Nothing personal of course. I'm still going to try and join you guys on Fridays for Battlefield. And perhaps other games in the long run. Thanks for taking the time to consider my application at least and all the best with raiding of course :).
