Eh? I thought we were the new normal and everyone else is just plain weird? :dribble:

Oh hey! The Oculus should be delivered tomorrow! That was super quick!

Galatoni

Wow. That was quick! I'm seriously considering getting one in a month or so. Thing is I've never been a resolution junkie and so far that seems to be the big thing setting the consumer version apart from the dk2. Could you do a quick review if you get chance?

I have to admit, being a laptop gamer this will be a real portability enhancer. I'm not an early adopter though and will wait until Summer.

I'll certainly give you my impressions! I think the resolution issues are more to do with useability - i.e. it's hard to read the text in elite, apparently. They will also be improving stuff like positional tracking etc. So sensible people will wait.

Call this a vote of confidence in how good Elite is to play on the Oculus Rift..

Sounds like they're shipping pretty quickly. Looking forward to hearing the feedback you have guys.

Also no_peanuts has one as well, but not sure he is playing Elite.

Just been giving it a go. It's really, really cool. First impressions are that the resolution is much better than I expected, but still not perfect. Perfectly fine though. Sense of immersion and scale is wonderful. Cockpit in elite is excellent and very useable. Maps are very difficult to use though, as it's not meant to be viewed in 3d and using a 2d mouse in a 3d map is very hard.

Overall though, I'm never playing elite without it again. Plus I'll be getting the next version of oculus as soon as it's available now.

I'm very, very happy!

Galatoni

Glowing then really. Wow neat. Thanks for the review.

I'll write a little more later, but yes, it's fantastic :)

Can you expand further on the Galaxy Map issue please? I imagined as the map is also 3D then navigating around it would be fine. Also the text on the map is pretty nice and clear.

It's not a clarity issue, it's an interface issue. The 3D map looks glorious, but when you click on a star with the mouse, it's has no idea what you're trying to select for some reason. You can be clicking on a star and it won't select anything, or it will select a completely different system. I'm sure there is a nack or workaround, but at the minute it's barely useable.

Allegedly my Rift arrives today, but with my office Christmas party, I won't be at home to enjoy it!

First chance I get, I will run into the Galaxy Map in the rift and see what it looks like.

I can see why 3D would be a problem when pointing and clicking. Thanks.

It definitely isn't the most important part of the experience though. It's annoying, but I forget all about it as soon as in in the actual game. Which is amazing.
