Blunt

Thanks for the tips.

So, if I understand this correctly, I can stash all my loot in a workbench and then it will be accessible in all workbenches throughout the world?

Also, does it matter much where or when I build my settlement?

Not yet, there is a perk that lets you setup supply lines between settlements. It uses 1 settler but then you share resources between the 2 settlements.

Not sure it matters when, you don't have to set one up at all but I quite enjoy the base building side.

As to where, a couple of missions in and you will be able to start setting up the Sanctuary settlement, you can't choose a random location though. There are other settlements throughout the world which you can help later on, you will get quests soon after sanctuary to help other settlements who then join you.

First of not yet you need the local leader perk which I think Is in the intelligence perk chart at lvl 6 so like last time you need 6 points in intelligence to get this perk and you need to use both levels in it, if your serious about settlements then you want this because you get the ability to make shops at your bases to get money and have your own personal, armour, weapons and general store at your own base. And you can make supply lines and these are what you need to get your items everywhere and by items this only means junk/ crafting materials I believe. So ( slight spoiler .. Kinda ) the first two settlements you can build at are sanctuary and red rocket, I know these are close together but say you like me you make the main base in sanctuary after its all set up you find you need another base and you don't want to go and transport supplies yourself that would take to long and let's be honest we got no time for that ;) so you go to build mode and go to a person in camp and make a supply line you tell them to go to red rocket and they will some how let you use all the items in your sanctuary base in your red Rocket base.

There are a lot of places you can have bases but you can't pick them, they have all ready been selected and if you want to find more talk to Preston who will give two missions at a time Normally meaning you can find a lot of settlement spots straight of the bat if you want them.

Anything else blunt :)

I just pop back to Sanctuary to offload all the junk I've picked up.

I've been in there several times but no one joined. I know I smell a bit of ghoul and super mutant blood on me but it can't be that bad right?
I also have a few more tips. The first red rocket gasstation/base is my main base. I use it to store everything. If you find another buddy to take along for the roadtrip, you can send the other one there so you know where he is.

I've put about 10-15 hours in to this now and whilst FO3 was one of my all time favourite games I cant help but feel this is the most disappointed I've ever felt about a game. I feel like I'm playing a lazy dlc for FO3 with little new brought in.

smilodon

When a franchise does well the publisher can get lazy and assume they can throw out any rubbish and still make a fortune. A bit like The Transformers movies.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Tutonic

I got about the same mileage out of it. Felt like a Fallout 3 mod right from the start, a very poor effort.

I got about 40 hours. And I struggle to get back to it now. The worst thing is it was a present from my better half. I feel they missed big opportunity to make something special. Its nice and can be fun and all but the prevalent feeling is meh. Makes me sad

urgh, didn't mean to post twice

I don't agree that this is just a mod/dlc for fallout 3.

Graphically compared to fallout 3 (2008) it's much nicer and less brown (http://kotaku.com/fallout-3-vs-fallout-4-in-screenshots-1712122808)

Some nice comparisons here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef2HH0Uf29E

Shooting without VATs is better (from what I've read, can't compare as I only played 3 on xbox)
Settlements - I really enjoy setting up bases etc. There's a reason to keep all that junk now.

The world seems big enough that I wouldn't expect it to be DLC. I'm not really sure what everyone else was expecting?

Just me opinion. :)

... but saying that I can't back into it, as much as I like the game the atmosphere is too oppressive/depressing/tense for me. I manage an hour before I need to hangout at the base and piddle around. If I was playing coop it would be great, my psyche could handle it.
I find games like this emotionally exhausting so I should probably avoid the genre in future unless I can coop. :)

i completely agree with jamoe but didn't want to start a arguement. this is the problem people always compare them why not think of it as it own game fallout 3 was released a while back now and they got new tech which i think works great . i think fallout is a brilliant game and i can't wait for the dlc to come out for it.

I didnt mean my post to sound I think it is a bad game. As Jamoe says gunplay is great, weapon modifications as well, I like colors too, world is large and beautiful, it just leaves this meh feeling that I cant get back to it for some reason. Now coop in too people, one as a main character, the other as a companion would be heaven, each would focus on different perks, best game ever. Wanted this for ages in games like Skyrim etc, just two people pls and I ll be happy forever :)

Wasn't really responding to your post specifically :) Either way no need to apologies, these are all just opinions. I think I stopped playing fallout3 for the same reason, the game is just too lonely, heavy and depressing for me :)

Totally agree about coop, would make this game a contender for game of the year for me.

Also agree about weapon/armour mods, forgot about those.

It's difficult for myself to think of it as a different game to FO3 purely due to the fact it's so similar to it. The new tech is nothing more than some minor improvements imo the graphics have improved but it's difficult to see much more as they're basically using the same tile sets, enemies, weapons and game play mechanics.

This is of course purely my opinion though.
