Unfortunately, the arrival of some family for a few days for Xmas pretty much sounds the death knell for be doing anything outside of the living room for the next few days!

Enjoy if you get to load into the real world for a while :)

Morning awl, Just had a quick trek around 2.1c The Crusader environment. I have to say, High Settings, the game was a smooth experience, I would expect nothing different in a full game. There wasn't a lot going on I grant you but there was no graphical tearing and I certainly didn't crash (except the Connie).

Things I noticed I couldn't achieve with this PTU release:

- Automatic detection of TrackIR, it never worked either in 1st Person or in the ship. EDIT: it's not supported right now in game.
- I couldn't get my control bindings to be recognized even though they were in the correct folder and in the full v2.0 release they are recognized.

I may go back through an rebind everything later if I can be bothered.

The visuals were stunning, the Connie (the one I melted and is sitting there like the mother of all carrots shouting unmelt me, unmelt me!) was a huge improvement over the original that was in the Hangar in v1. The effect of another Connie taking off overhead, the sound, scale and atmosphere was awesome.

I think this is a major step forward in the game development, both in quality, stability and experience.

If I can get my TrackIR and controls back working I could find myself in game a lot more often.

I will say if anyone is getting crashes in PTU 2.1c then look at your computer health and specs. A mid range i7 with a GTX980 on my machine, which is very low on bloatware and startup crap runs it fine.

Cheers,

Bert

Bar in mind that TrackIR is not currently supported by the game.  It did work (sort of) in previous versions, but that was more by luck than judgement and was more of a hack, really.  Proper support will come, as will support for VR when there are commercial versions to code against.

Regarding controls, did you actually import the settings?  They're not picked up automatically.  Also, I think that on the PTU, control settings aren't persisted between sessions.  I haven't tested it, but I have had to reimport settings more than once in order to get them working.

All that said, the visuals are pretty stunning right now, and any slowdown in FPS is known to be server issues, not client, so hardware, while important, isn't to blame if people are experiencing low frame rates at the moment.

I see what I was doing wrong with the controls. The old folder was just called Star Citizen and I placed my profile in there without looking too far past my nose. There's a new Cloud Imperium Games Folder with the Public and Test profiles in there and my new control setup saved to that folder.

As more people came online the FPS went South totally. It became unplayable and there were rarely launch pads free to add ships to get into. when I did eventually get up and away the FPS in space was horrible.

So my original feedback applied to a server with very little load I assume. Still looked nice.

Sounds like this is the best yet and can get players to team up. I hope the live patch goes live before I return home but I'd love to know how you are doing with the "D" patch? Can players meet up with some consistency yet?
