Hi Squiders, I thoroughly approve of your interest in CS:GO because it is a fantastic game. Although I'm not a pro nor am I playing CS:GO at the moment I like to consider myself relatively skilled at it. A similar thread to this was started a while back which looked at basic tips for improving at the game: http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?41570-CS-GO-Tips-and-Advice-Exchange

If you need any tips on anything in particular such as improving your aim, game sense or map knowledge then just give one of us a shout and we'll be more than happy to help.

In regards of your questions about equipment you don't need a mechanical keyboard, I use a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 (which although old) still works well in every situation. The mouse pad isn't something that needs to be top of the line but if you really want to get a lot better at the game then you'll want to invest in a reasonable one (though that doesn't mean it has to be expensive!). As you're asking for tips I assume you're playing competitive matchmaking, if you are then brilliant, first thing I'd recommend is find a group of people of similar skill that you enjoy playing with and go into the matches with them so that you can share experience and progress steadily. If you're not then I recommend trying the game mode out (you'll need to be at least private rank 3) because honing your skills will be much easier in competitive than in any other game mode.

Have fun!

Biggest thing I would say is just practice. To often people look at configs/mouse/keyboard/monitors and everything else and are always messing around with them, but really it's just practice. There are plenty of warm up maps you can play that will help with your aim. Deathmatch is also good for this, it's quicker than a normal match and you have to be faster with your shots. Also allows you to play around with a bunch of different guns. Biggest factor alongside practice is just knowing the maps really. Just learn good places to take up where you can cover as few angles as possible. Once you get more comfortable you can start playing around with using grenades properly (pop flashes) and the like. Playing match making on your own probably isn't going to be very pleasant unfortunately. So as Dex says find a few people you can play matches with, at your level or slightly higher so they can help you and you'll learn more.

Hey Squiders,

You can always join our server, where your attitude is more important than your skill.

Playing well is kinda important to some people, but playing as part of a team is more important.

There's loads of YouTube videos that will point you in the right direction on various things, eg. Aim, nades, angles etc.

But the best way to Learn is to play against real people, learn the classic maps and their spots and angles, and choose your weapons wisely.

Join us on Teamspeak too and we will help you.

The most basic things I would say that really helped me are:

1. Crosshair placement. A lot of players will be looking at the ground/sky/where they're walking and as CS:GO is mostly (debatable?) about reaction times this can really hurt you. Keep your crosshair at head level, think about where the enemy will be when rounding corners, etc.

2. Sensitivity. Keep sensitivity low to make sure you can accurately aim. This will help in the future as well as you consider recoil/etc as well. Pairs nicely with a large mouse mat, which you asked about.

Other than that I'd agree with uni: practice practice practice! You can't force your brain to know the maps/timings/economy without getting in there and playing it. Concentrate on basic skills (crosshair placement for now, recoil later, etc) and let the feel of the game come from lots of play.

Good luck!

Very good tips. One well known advice is to watch vids from this Warowl guy https://www.youtube.com/user/TheWarOwl/videos?flow=grid&view=0&sort=p
Tutorials, matchmaking academy and strat talks in particular, explains a lot. And when you are bored any professional match will do if you have time so see how those special ones approach various sitations.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I went out and bought myself a professional mouse pad and headset so that will hopefully help. Also thanks for letting me play with you guys last night that was real good fun for me and I shall definitely become a regular player with you guys as you're all so nice.

Can't think of anything to add apart from even if enemies are spotted at one site don't completely desert the other site until the bomb's been seen.
