Blob and myself bought TwoBad a driving experience for christmas and it was booked up for today. Little did me and Blob know that we could actually drive a couple of the cars.

Pay attention to the Ariel Atom in front of Twobad during his MX5 run at around 2:15

Was the Atom an automatic? - that run in the mazda, not sure what that car was doing in front of you Dave but no one should cut up the twobad! was it Cheese who was driving that car in front:norty:

Hmm, yes, the Ariel Atom.  In the drivers briefing they're like "The Ariel Atom is like nothing you've driven before. 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds." And then when you're about to get into it the person calling your name is saying things like "Are you sure you want to do this .... blah blah blah".  Then you get in it and the instructor says "I'll do the gear change.  I'll tell you when to put the clutch in and when to lift off".  Then when on the track you stay in 3rd gear all the time.  I think they must be scared of someone screwing up the gearbox/engine.  Two of the three cars i was supposed to have driven weren't there, one they said was due to someone over reving it and blowing the engine.  The big deal about the Ariel Atom is the acceleration but the way they make you drive it kills that.  So yes it was fun but no where near as fun as it should have been.  I had much more fun in the MX5 which i wasn't expecting at all.

As for the Ariel Atom driver when i was in the MX5, who knows.  You're not allowed to overtake until given permision from the instructor in the car ahead of you.  He signalled us to overtake on the left which i started to do and then the driver moved left.  Think my instructor had kittens !!

I guess they have a lot of factors they have to consider which limits what you/can can't do. I'm glad you all had fun though, I would love to do something like this :)

You can take your own car to various track days if you want a more 'hands off' experience. Sure, you won't necessarily get to drive around in something exotic, but you also won't have an instructor next to you putting a dampener on the fun!

Careful, though, as removing the safety wheels can of course be much more dangerous.

I got given one of these track days for my 30th it was a great day and lots of fun.  Your a lucky man Twobad great gift !!
