On a serious note it would seem proper persistence is not far away now. Whether this means absolutely everything you do today will be with your for ever is uncertain, but it looks promising

Good to hear it's coming, but as with everything Star Citizen it will take time. That video mentions the most basic of persistence functions by the end of 2020, and anything beyond that 'sometime after'.

See you in 2030 then gents. :yahoo:

I'll try and take you up on the training session when 3.9.1 is out Sithy, hopefully before this weekend with the free flight week.

I guess it's different for each player. I would find it hard to play and work through an MMO when everything I did was going to get scrubbed at some point in the future.
Ark also restarts quite often but then I imagine it's possibly the progression that counts rather than the end result.

But in an MMO like SC I'd be there to acquire ships, real estate, business, reputation etc. Sort of like World of Warcraft. I'd freak if my Level 120 toon suddenly got bumped back to level 1 and losteverything.

That's why I couldn't see myself spending much time there if it was all going to be for nothing, while the game works through Alpha etc.

I totally share your thoughts actually Smilo!
However, if you don't mind that money is persistent, then there is still fun to be had in the game, my balance has grown and stayed with me for the last 3 patches since data persistence was in, but yes, fair enough, I've had to rebuy the odd bit of equipment that got deleted, this was only for ship equipment I had bought and fitted though, my character equipment has remained mostly persistent too.

I'm not about to dump credits in game for ships etc but having the cash handy is definitely a plus.

And my advice remains, if you want a bug free game, then SC simply isn't ready for you yet :)

Also as a laughable side note, when you log into WoW in December your 120 character will be 50 with 10 levels to go for the new expansion :roflmao:

So the chuffed factor didn't hang around long did it?

I've been on SC every day this week and not a single person has joined Discord whilst I was there (maybe that should tell me something :D). But seriously, there is a lot to do for beginners in the game right now and I estimate that you'd get 2-3 weeks of decent solo and team gameplay.

Most importantly, you'd have the basisi of understand required to make the next update easy to get into. I encourage people to try it out.

[@Chaos, yes you can buy many ships in game with aUEC gained from missions, and they will persist through the Alpha (and if they disappear you can raise a ticket asking for your hard earned assets returned) - In a matter of hours you can get the starter ships and then if you are really dedicated, within a week a medium ship - you just have to resist the urge to by clothing and unnecessary gear, which is a tough ask. I've literally had only one incident where assets have disappeared, and it was during a silly mission where I jumped from my ship onto an enemy vessel and was gunned down by a ship whilst landing. I lost a helmet and a few weapons that were tied to my account, but could replace these easily.]

I have been on most days, just because people are not in discord doesn’t mean the game isn’t getting played. I have been doing a lot of mining or trying to get my head around mining and how to get a good mining run. So a lot of the time I mine with some music in the back ground while trying a new flavoured coffee... just like a true miner. I have seen addx on it a lot as well, with a few struggles that this games brings but players are still playing it. I have grouped up with lib sith and addx in the week, and have done a few things but mainly me and addx have been trying to get some money out of mining.

I understand, everyone has certain people they like playing with. Hey but listen,  I am on the discord channel so it would be nice if people would but just join. It's nice to know others are there to bounce ideas off and be a community.

So to give you an idea of what we can achieve together, I am also trying to mine and trade to get money, I did 2 days with a Prospector, pretty low pickings to be honest, I had to individually just trawl through YouTube channels and find a few good tips to try. Why not put our collective imagination together and share what works and what doesn't?

Right now I can get 100K every few hours FPS mining, or 300K doing 15K deliveries, trading I can make 40K every 20 minutes but the game crashes and you lose the lot.

I joined the discord of LOLS, the group Lysander plays with and whilst they don't have anyone online at a particular time, they are still helping those who are there, and they welcomed me with open arms. Tomorrow they will do a group night with some escorts and a Hammerhead. No idea what it will entail but it's more interesting than anything dMw have done for a few weeks.

I was on a bit yesterday. Few one hour stints, and I was on Friday night for many hours. During the week is usually a bit hit-and-miss. I work from home, and while I do game, I prefer to not sit round all the time. So during the week, I'll do other things (VR) or play with hardware. I usually try and stand up to do these things though.

I'm considering a standing desk but right now I'm just trying to stay afloat.

Easy on the tone though Albert. Not everyone wants to play SC, and that's fine right now. There is plenty to do, but playing an alpha isn't everyone's vibe.

I do feel I should say though, a few people have been helping people find their feet. Despite me not being on much I've managed to find time to help people, done a few missions. I'm aware of at least a 6 more examples of people doing stuff. Bit unfair to say that were not doing anything interesting.

I'm just going with the data from my last week of Discord, yes there are a few people playing solo, but not a single person has come on Discord in the last week whilst I've been there playing and I'm playing a few hours every evening with a couple of exceptions. (Ok it might be me, you're all on a private channel happily playing and avoiding me, I wouldn't blame you ).

The point I'm making is that for a game like SC to survive in a community and yes it's still Alpha, there still needs to be some glimmer or a spark that lasts more than the average hype duration of any other game. We have an organisation structure with departments, roles, big plans, and likely zero chance of any of that ever being realised because we simply cannot keep the interest up long enough to establish a stable persistent community. (I'm sure the org structure will be revisited to make it more approriate to the new dMw Community structure so I'm not worried about that).

Like you, Sith and several others, I want to see dMw do a good job of SC, so I'm not pointing fingers as it's not a single individual or group challenge, it's a community challenge. I know how it feels with Elite Dangerous to have put thousands of hours into a game helping and training, being patient as people climb a very steep learning curve, for it all to just pitter out. I'm just saying lets try a bit harder on Discord for longer than the average tollerance period, maybe we'll get over a hump.

I don't think there is much to discuss, the current state of the game is enjoyable only as a labour of love for those of us who want to labour at it. I encourage people like Oldie etc to come see the games progression which he did and was "chuffed" but I wouldn't expect them to set aside even 1 night a week to play the game in its current state.

If you've been lucky not to have your inventory deleted or experienced game breaking bugs then, lucky for you (Albert) but I've had all my items deleted for the 3rd time just in 3.9.1 and I'm currently waiting to hear back on a ticket with support to at least just credit me the now lost limited items purchased during Invictus week, which I've no doubt they will replace (I hope) but that mess around is punishing to the point of putting the game down and coming back in 3.10

I can't speak for the community, but I only get on late after the kids are down, never before 10pm tbh. Playing this game a lot since 3.9.1 and it's killed me so took Sat/Sun off :)

I agree with Sit, it really is a labour of love. I've spent 6+ hours trying to trade commodities for little gain other then reporting issues with Trading consoles that don't work (usually at outposts). We spent about 3 hours on Friday tryng to do a Merc mission where I spent most of the time dying and trying to get back to the rendezvous points. We completed the missions but never got the coin and while I was exploring the Cat wreckages the game bugged and I couldn't get back in my ship. I suicided and noticed my character just drop one of the guns on my back, now lost. Only time I've had any success is with the delivery missions which netted me a nice about of coin. But that game play loops only holds so much pull.

I can't blame anyone for not putting this game above another although I have hope for Theatres of War as that should offer a bit more of the quick 30 min action packed fun and less of a loss when things go wrong.

Jamoe

Missed Alberts post on the 6th. Yea, I'm totally up for doing more coop but I can't promise or even schedule time for this for reason mentioned above.

Perhaps we need to relook at the SC Leadership for those that want to continue playing? I don't know who holds what roles (image has dissappeared) but I imagine not many in the original structure are playing much, if at all?

Perhaps a couple of enthusiastic people with a little more time could bridge the gap and plan some group activities?
