Hey man, you do you :D

I think there are 2 cardinal rules -

1) If you already enjoy what you have, you don't necessarily need to look elsewhere, and
2) The ability of your headphones or speakers matter more than anything else.

That said... you all need to ditch gaming headsets, they're awful :D  (half joking)

One thing that I did forget to mention above, as a downside for soundcards OR motherboard audio is its harder to isolate them from EM interference from the rest of the PC. With external devices this isn't an issue (most of the time - USB can still be noisy). Tbh though as the motherboard audio has improved so has shielding and other tricks to reduce noise from the CPU, so often you probably don't even notice this.

probably completely off topic from the thread now, but I recently got hold of some Audio pro A10s though for laptop I just plug in some not-great headphones ...I tried the headphones thread but it was half out of date and very hard to follow what various things were still considered good/okay bar the last 2 or 3 posts :g:

I have some audio pro speakers too. They sound great, but by god their app for wireless use (multiroom etc) is just awful. They work fine for just basic spotify use but beyond that, as a multiroom set up, I couldn't recommend them.

If you want some headphone advice I can oblige but as you've said it's an entirely different kettle of fish. I also think there's an important difference between headphones and gaming headset... so if you do want some advice let us know what it is you're looking for first xD

mmm ... I think the A10s will be going back :sideways: already had some connection issues where they disappeared, ended up needing to reboot them, and their app is definitely lacking - can't take more stress from software/hardware that does not "just work". I also discovered while searching for other ways to push audio to them that they are only bluetooth 4 and there's a new model due this year that would also include google home casting support. I shall start a new thread to avoid hijacking this one (any further :flirty:)
