Has anyone used a PCI-e 2.0x1 slot to sata adaptor?  Thinking I may need to expand my system somewhat...

I have 4x sata connectors (2x 3.0 and 2x 2.0)

128gb SSD boot drive/office drive (probably getting upgraded to a 240gb one though as its always full) and 1TB SSD on the faster connectors

with 500gb SSD, CD Drive on the slower 2.

Now, over time, as you do I have collected a number of "spare" drives, a 2tb hdd here , and a handful of 500-1tb HDD/SSDs there- rather than go to waste, and since I'm running out of room on my current setup  I am guessing I can use these adaptors?  Are they any good though, if anyone has prior experience with them (Only for storing really, anything i play a lot will get transferred to my main 1TB SSD).  Or is there a better way?

Hi DB,

I use https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00AZ9T3OU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 into a free PCIe slot which then gives me the ability to add a spare SSD (or 4 but I have only 1). The only difference I see is that this way is that the drive has become hot swappable and can be ejected like a USB drive.

But it works exactly like other SSDs and I run games on it fine. The drive I use is sllightly lower spec (2TB Samsung QVO vs EVO) and higher capacity than the main board conencted drives so runs 30% slower for Read and Write. So 550Mbps Read for the EVO and 420Mbps for the QVO. 530Mbps write for the EVO and 380Mbps for the QVO.

It does take up a slot of course and a blanking plat in the reaer of the case but internally it is a pretty small card. Aesthetically, there is a cable to hide (or not depending on your OCD).

Cheers, Bert

That’ll do for me, Bert, thanks! Storage management crisis averted
