old question - picking an ISP for ADSL

Right, I'm moving house tonight, so will need to sort out a new internet connection. It's gonna be ADSL of some sort. At my old house I got ADSL via Virgin.net and am quite tempted to go with them again for this year. Connection's been good, contracts the most flexible I've seen and there's no fees other than a per month line rental of £24.99

If someone would like to suggest a better ISP or to tell me to avoid any in particular please go ahead I'm somewhere static for 12 months so can get 12 month contracts this time. I have a usb modem which I'm hoping to hook up to a linux box (router) this time, whcih I think I asked about a few weeks ago...so expect me to have forgotten and to ask again Anyway...

glancing at adslguide.org, thinking that these options look good...though virgin.net don't have any connection or cancellation charges...
bulldog anytime 500 maybe with the netgear bundled modem/router for another £70 ,though ebuyer sell this thing which could be a decent alternative...

even the bulldog 1Gb service is looking attractive... it doesn't appear to have a download limit!?

maybe pipex solo 500 they seem to have the best ratings out of the ones I looked at on adslguide.org

I would like to suggest Telewest cable. They have just given a free upgrade so you get 750k for the price of 512k. I think its the same price as you were paying. I use them and have had no problems with the service at all. Moving to Clifton Wood in the next couple of weeks myself.

i use pipex and its fine only probs ive ever had has been at my end, never had the conection drop due to them or such and alwasy get good speeds

Im on good ld ntl 600mb line i think and i get a 16 ping on the mh     . Though i guess its not available in your area right?

I wouldn't recommend Manx Telecoms ADSL package, luckily enough for you I doubt it's available in your area

I have to pay £40 a month for a 512kbps ADSL connection!

I was once a happy telewest customer, for about 4 years in various houses, and I would choose them again but for one little incident...I spent 9 months of battling, first to try and get a line installed, then to try and stop them sending debt-collectors to my old house for money that I didn't owe them (after 6 months of calling they acknowledged the fact that I'd requested my old nistallation cancelled...)

BT took 24 hours to set up my phone line and virgin.net took a week to get adsl enabled. Cancelling and online updatnig is simple and works. I'm not going back to telewest with their multiple user-databases... If you'd like to see extracts of the letter I am sending them as a follow up (with cc's to ofcom etc) you can.

With BY there has been absolutely no access to email for at least 7 days over the last month and a half. They know the issue and have had the suppliers in but they aren't fixing it and are not keeping their users proerly informed. All you get is "Sorry, email isn't working" again and again and again.

I use Plusnet for my ADSL, I've had no problems even when moving house - BT caused that particular problem...
