Technology Section / Windows 8 upgrade question
January 20, 2013, 07:18:29 PM
Just a quick check before I go through with this...

There's an offer until January 31st to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro for only â,¬29,99. Seems good enough, but I have 2 questions:

1) If I get this upgrade, how will a reinstall of my Windows work in the future, say if I lose my HDD or something of the likes? Will I have to reinstall Windows 7 then upgrade it to 8 again? And following that, will this upgrade provide me with a key of some sorts to reacquire W8 (since the offer only goes for online purchase)?

2) I'm planning to switch to an SSD drive in the near future, just not right now. This is sort of the reason I asked 1), but I guess I'll have to reinstall Windows onto the SSD. I was wondering what happens to my software if I do that. Will I have to reinstall everything onto the SSD or will it function off of the old HDD?

Hope you can help :-)

:lmfao: I shouldn't laugh but that picture is hilarious!

Sorry to hear though Switch, that sounds *really* painful! No permanent damage I hope?

Surprise early shift at the bar tonight, so in a way with Jes too, since we're showing the game too.

DMR Members Only / New job!
June 22, 2012, 03:00:08 PM
As the title says, I was hired earlier this week! I'm going to start my first 'real job' as a junior marketeer at a big translation/interpretor company. I'm pretty stoked since I only graduated 2 months ago and the current job climate isn't exactly in my favor. To get a fulltime job with a nice salary this fast, needless to say I'm excited.

The reason for my posting this, aside from that joyous fact, is that this will also directly influence my raiding time. As you guys will have noticed I've already dipped in my attendance a bit. This was primarily because I've started working at the bar (on a voluntary basis) of my campus a few months ago, as well as some other social events. With this new fulltime job however, I will only have the weekends and evenings to myself. I'm joining the aforementioned bar's board in a few months as well, which takes up some of it. So time for raiding will be very short. On top of that, with the content being cleared, my motivation has dipped quite some as well. I still enjoy the raiding if it goes smoothly, mind, but the need is far less than it used to be.

I've already discussed a bit with the officers, but this is just a post saying I'll slowly phase out of WoW. Just a bit faster than I anticipated, as this job starts July 2nd, which means I'll have one-and-a-bit raiding week left until you'll seriously notice the impact. I've had a blast raiding in Cata, and I'm not really saying I'm going to quit WoW, although it pretty much comes down to that. I've still got a subscription until well into the fall (cause of the whole 1 year Diablo 3 thing), and doubtlessly I'll check out MoP. But with the considerably less free time that comes with the job, don't expect to see me around in WoW much.

Of course I'll still be playing Diablo 3 and I'm still going to hang around on the forums, so far from goodbye :-)

DMR Members Only / Single night heroic clear!
June 22, 2012, 12:23:25 PM
Have to say guys, I'm really glad we managed this. Not just the Madness kill but a one night clear of the place (with no wipes outside the Madness ones) feels really good to have accomplished in the winter of this expansion :-)

Hate to let down again, but I'm covering someone's early shift this thursday. She can't find anyone else but really can't work that day so I agreed. Unfortunately, the early shift is 20:30 - 23:30 so that pretty much covers the entire raid.
I'm at a concert this sunday, so I'll see you lot tuesday! Again, sorry for the leaky attendance!

EDIT: Also, my connection is on the fritz again tonight. Laggy/non-existent. Hope it resolves itself, as there's nothing I can see wrong on my end.

A bit sloppy with the few random threads in the Gaming Development section, but I wanted to post this somewhere so here goes:

Found a great build for the Barbarian! I kept dying despite my gear being at least on par with my difficulty level, which was somewhat frustrating. So I did some research and came up with this build:

Skills:
Frenzy + Sidearm: Frenzy's insane attack speed boost means it easily beats the other two in usefulness, especially when combined with Life on Hit weapons. It lacks splash damage, so I chose the Sidearm rune, but Smite can be useful as well.
Leap + Iron Impact: The leap itself allows you to get out of a tight spot if you so wish, but the Rune makes it super useful to use whenever it's up too. +300% armor really boosts your survivability.
Ground Stomp + Wrenching Smash: I find this one almost mandatory, as the stun can give you a very big breathing space. I use the Wrenching Smash rune to drag mobs close to me, so that I can unleash...
Revenge + Provocation: This is your big damage dealer. Provocation makes it activate a hell of a lot more often, and Revenge also adds 5% health for each target you hit. Mandatory skill in any build I'd say.
Furious Charge + Dreadnaught: Another mobility skill, but it also heals you for 8% for each target you hit with it. Great way to escape or recover a lot of health when you're chased by a big pack. With this, Stomp and Leap all on short CD you have a lot of options to get out of a tight spot.
War Cry + Invigorate, or Impunity when you get it: Adds more armor, Invigorate also increases health by 10% and adds HP regen. Impunity is a real killer though, 50% to all resistances is a *lot* and means you can spend gear budget on other stuff.

The passives really make this build though:
Tough As Nails: 25% extra armor
Nerves of Steel: 100% of your vitality as Armor
Superstition: 20% reduced magic damage

A lot of survivability right there. I immediately noticed the effect, I can suddenly hold my ground against elite packs again and haven't died in a while now. Your damage may not be as high but you stay alive a lot longer, which in the end means you will win rather than end up smeared across the floor.

Specced into Blood and Thunder to spread Rend on the heroic adds. Should help with spellweave procs.

Pff what's this then! That must be the first kill I've missed since Heroic Baleroc in Firelands ^^

Nice one guys!

There's no pay-to-play, you buy the game once for the regular full price of a PC game and you're set for life. There's an ingame Auction house that comes in two flavours. One where you use ingame gold to bid on, buy and sell items, which you acquire by killing stuff and doing quests, selling items to NPC vendors etc. And one where you use real money for the same things. You can choose to have the earnings added to your Blizzard account that you use to buy Blizzard products and merchandise, or you can choose to have them transfered to your actual bank account at a fee.

But you don't need to use the real money auction house to fully enjoy the game. So basically, you only pay for the game once :-)
