Ranged DPS / Meta Gem - Skyfire

Quote from: TeaLeaf;188743The equations are pretty much always right.  The chance to proc and the chance to crit are both just that, chances.  Not feelings, but the laws the programmers design a trinket to follow.

So, we have a 5% proc and a 0.67% proc.

The 5% proc gives 2.5% extra DPS.
The 0.67% crit gives 0.36% extra DPS plus a 1% spell reflect.

Both are a chance.
But one chance is many times better than the other.
Both reflect an average proc over the long term.

2.5% extra dps > 0..36% extra dps imo, because the 1% reflect is so little used and therefore of neglibile value.  When would a 1% reflect be worth it when you know it cannot be relied upon a sit is a 1% chance?  It has a minor PVP use, maybe imo.

My question was not really which was more valuable (5% proc clearly is) but more why there is such a huge difference in benefits - I was wondering if my logic/math was incorrect.

TL.

Your logic/math looks correct and it's pretty obvious from a caster's point of view which one is better in a long boss fight. The difference in benefits I don't understand myself either since the 5% proc rate gem would be better in both pvp and pve for a Caster. The only reason I could see someone take the other gem is if he doesn't like the random chances of procs. I guess you can just blame it on old crazy Blizzard.

The Clean Up / It's been awesome
January 16, 2007, 03:51:43 PM
Yup, I'm leaving aswell, most of you probably could have guessed I would. I'll be joining Genesis as a Reserve or just idling there, I've decided to quit raiding but will still join Genesis as most of the friends I've made online are now there.

I'd just like to thank everyone for an awesome 2 years, I've had it great in SOG and met lots of great people but it's time I moved on and the quiting raiding thing I've been considering for a loooong time :).

Goodbye, Kreuz.

SOG Archive / I guess it's my turn

I just wanted to notify you about what I will most likely be doing when TBC comes out or maybe just when we start raiding again.

I'm either going to join Genesis or be a non-raiding member of either SOG or Genesis. I think it's most likely that I won't be raiding at all, but I haven't decided yet.

I've been in SOG from the very start and I've seen the guild come through many bad situations. I know you'll come out of this great as well. I'm going to miss a lot of people, no matter what my choice will be since I might not see you that often, if even a little. I'm especially gonna miss that British accent and humor of yours TL :narnar:.

Lately I've just been bored of WoW and I've thought about quitting for a looooong time. This doesn't have anything to do with the raidgroups or management. If I decide to join Genesis it's most likely because most of the people I know well and raided with for a long time will be there.

Hope you aren't too angry at me for doing this, especially since most of the others quit yesterday. But I won't be a total stranger no matter what my choice is. :D

Well one word comes to mind. Ouch. Another GM retiring  . Well I'm sad to see you go but glad you'll stick around and you might play later on. Makes me wonder just how many of the people I knew in the beginning have stopped playing except me...

See you at the X-mas LAN Vargen! :D

Ranged DPS / Burning Crusade Builds

I like the aggro reduction and resist reduce myself since the only time the interrupt thing matters in PvE is on Vaelastrasz. But I'll consider it since there really aren't many fights I use AM on anyway.
