Something I thougth I noticed with this game, but could do with confirmation on (I was playing Hardened too):

Am I right in thinking that enemies respawn endlessly until you advance? I swear there were areas where I was afraid of running out and getting shot, so I was sniping germans with the rifle. There just seemed to be an endless supply of them. Then i'd get a bullet in the head, restart from the last checkpoint, and be past the section with only about 3 groups of Germans having come at me, as I spotted a gap in the waves and advanced to cover further up the line. Suddenly no more Germans coming right up to me, but seemingly endless waves from past the next area of good cover, until I manage to once again dash up during a lull in the waves (i.e. between wiping out this lot and the next lot appearing. It seems to be there every time, you just have to make sure that all the Germans are dead while not heasitating, cos if you run out and they're there you'll get shot, and if you hesitate too long to check then the next wave will appear before you get to cover).

CarrOt, thats exactly right, PCZone mentioned this as one of the few annoying things about the game, respawning dead germans.

Yep that's right...

I actually like this - it FORCES you to make an advance (you can't  just sit back and pick off a set amount of enemy til they are all gone - something that was a bad thing with Ghost Recon 1 and other FPSs single player modes).

I also like teh sneaky way they try and out-flank your position.

I was defending a bunker last night, and all of a sudden the bast**ds appeared BEHIND me! They had sneaked through an underground corridoor between the bunkers!

Cool!

:)

But I would still like a co-op mode - all too often, with me taking the initiative to advance (being the human player) I found myself surrounded by enemy with my AI teammates lagging some way behind!

Be great if you could play this co-op with some other dMw guys!

Yesterday I reported that I was a bit disappointed in the British North African campaign.

Well, last night I got past this section and it turns out that the game follows the British 7th Armoured Divisions progress on D-Day towards the battle at Caen!

:)

A lot better! Plenty of house to house stuff AND (as if by magic) the Sten gun has turned up.

Even better m- IMHO - it is better than the Thompson or the MP40 and as good as the Russian SMGs that I mentioned above

I am now a happy chappy again.

:)

Indeed, I didn't say I didn't like it, it just caught me out the first few times as I wasn't expecting it. Given how hectic I  imagine the war really was I think this is a good way of portraying it without just completely overwhelming you with enemies. Same as the health system in the game. The amount of Germans out there, and the ease with which you can die, make up for the ease with which you can get back to full health just by briefly ducking into cover. And it means you don't have the unrealistic 'health packs' lying around.

:narnar: Well, they have to make some concessions to actually make the game fun to play. Personally if it was 2 shots = death, over an entire campaign, I think i'd quickly get bored. I'm just saying I preferred this method of ducking undercover to calm down and regain health over finding health packs strewn about the place.

Yeah - i like it too...

It's actually got me into making better use of cover.

I now have my Nostromo set up properly using the 'D' pad to lean left and right, crouch and go prone. And I make use of them...

There's now a lot more sidling up to corners of walls, etc, then LEANING out to have a peek, then taking a pop shot and poping my head back in again! Reloading, then leaning back out...

It FEELS more realistic to do this ~ rather than the 'rush straight at your opponent firing like a maniac' that we do in BF2 sometimes.

Firefights seem to last longer in CoD2 because you are trying to get good position, and are picking away at your opponent until you get them...

Headshots are a pure pleasure in CoD2 because you blow the enemy's helmet off! LOL

That's why I look forward to Ghost Recon 3 - you can set the server to one shot kills AND 'knock out' so when you are dead you are dead! (And have to wait until teh next round to rejoin - Boy! Are people more careful then! LOL)

;)

Don't always kill 'em though. Something I really liked, just one of those little touches, happened several times in CoD2. I'd hit a guy in the head (generally as they were ducking out from behing a wall, so vertical cover, rather than horizontal cover like a barricade), their helmet'd go spinning off behind them and they'd disappear. A few seconds later their head'd come poking back round sans helmet, and they'd turn and look behind them to where the helmet landed, then turn back (assuming you gave them this long before shooting them in the head again). Maybe it was my imagination, but on those occasions when I was using the scoped sniper rifle (so had a fairly close up view) i'd swear that Infinity Ward had some pretty good scared/amazed facial expressions for the troops when that happened.

On a further random note, I note that your squadmates can pick up potato mashers and hurl them back at the enemy if they're fast enough, but you don't seem to be able to do this...

Maybe there isn't one.
