I am interested in buying another xeon for my board as it can take two xeons. The xeon i have is a 2.8ghz 800mhz fsb 1mb cache model or as known as the nocona series. Ok bascially intel aren't being too helpful but on ebay all the sellers have been selling matched pairs. Now when it comes to cpu's i am a complete noob. Do i need to match anything? Ok i know it has to be a 2.8ghz model with 800mhz and 1 mb cache but i am quite confused.

Which one do i want i want and how do i know which one i want?

Intel Pentium Xeon 2.8ghz MPGA Active 1u 800Mhz 1mb Cache Boxed
Mfr #: BX80546KG2800EU

Intel Pentium Xeon 2.8Ghz MPGA Passive 800Mhz 1mb Cache Boxed
Mfr part #: BX80546KG2800EP

Pentium Xeon 2.8ghz Fcmpga4 1u 800mhz 2mb Cache Retail
Mfr part #: BX80546KG2800FU

Intel Pentium Xeon 2.8GHz MPGA 800Mhz 1MB Cache Retail Boxed
Mfr #: BX80546KG2800EA

My board is a Asus NCCH-DL 2xSocket-604 I875P ATX - Sound GbLan USB2 IEEE1394a 800FSB SATA-Raid Retail Box
Mfr #: 90-MSV420-G0UAYZ

Thanks i am really at a loss and most appreciative for your help

Ok,I will explain a little,mpga,fc mpga are the pin arrangements of the cpu.

PGA=Pin grid array
mPGA=Micro Pin Grid Array
FC= FLIP CHIP

So..........FCmPGA = Flip Chip micro Pin Grid Array

I think the items you show have been posted with little regard of getting the accuracy spot on.You can discount the 2meg cache items,yours is 1meg.The passive and active is just the heatsink and weather it has a fan or not.Find out the code on your processor,match it up on the intel site,then do the same with the items in your list. :)

Thanks Norm i have learnt something else what you do is match up the sSpec codes. Then when typing these into intel it comes up with the product code numbers of processors that will accept it

Unfortunately mine is a rare breed with only two models availiable one being an oem which i can't find and one which is on ebuyer.com so i am going to order it. One thing though you know the sockets on the motherboards are they allowed to accept any xeon type and can u mix types? ie one chip one array and the other a completely different array? Or do they have to be matched?

604 pins,they gotta match m8 :) No mixing,even if they are the same pin outs,you really  need totally matching pairs.Some of the old p3's coild be mixed a bit(different voltages I think they where) but dont think they would produce a stable system tbh.

[/B]ok got my other xeon through from ebuyer. Right both have the same manufacturing id BX80546KG2800EA but they each have two different sspec codes

mine installed: sl7tb
and the one from ebuyer: sl7pd.

Now on looking at the sspec code of mine sl7tb it is compatible with these two types:

Product Order Codes

Box Order Code
 BX80546KG2800EA
OEM Order Code
 B80546KG0721M

And the one from ebuyer being compatible with

Product Order Codes

Box Order Code
 BX80546KG2800EP
Box Order Code
 BX80546KG2800EU
Box Order Code
BX80546KG2800EA
OEM Order Code
 RK80546KG0721M

So although the sspec codes are different are they compatible as they have the same product order codes. I am really confused!

Thanks

GM
