Dell Computers has agreed to buy Alienware, the manufacturer of funky high performance computers and notebooks beloved of the gaming community. The deal, which has been doing the rounds of the blog rumour mill for the past week, was finally confirmed yesterday.

Close, but what you'll actually get is slower more expensive Dells with a wierd paint job and custom components that will mean that when something fails the day after the warranty runs out you'll not be able to find a replacement  :P

Could in fact be not so far from a plausible outcome...

Dell have for ages been an Intel shop, whereas Alienware have offered high performance gaming PCs with both Intel and AMD chipsets. Does this mean that Alienware will stop producing AMD machines?

^^ Its been rumoured before that Dell may start producing systems with AMD processors, especially for their servers :eyebrow:  whether this comes to fruition or not is another matter.

True, i've heard the rumours too. But i've heard them before in the past. I'll be waiting to see some official announcement from Dell confirming it, or maybe even the first AMD machine from them, before believing it :)

Most of these rumours have been exactly that.  Rumours.  Nothing concrete has happened even thoug the rumour is now several years old.  Believe it when you see the hardware advertised.
