I have a
2500+ Barton
1 Gb Memory
Ati 9800Pro

I have been offered a ATI X800Pro to a good price. Do you think it would be ok run on that spec? Would the diffrerence be small? Would  it make any difference if I add another 512 MB of memory?

U do have a 8x agp slot i presume. If not a 4x slot will limit the 8x device to run at the former speed.  I think like my 6800gt you will need a spare power lead like those that i put into hard drives.

8X - yup (1.5V only though)
powerlead - already have that on my 9800Pro

In performance terms yes it is a worthwhile upgrade Sadako, given a fast enough CPU it will probably come close to doubling your graphics power.  Given your XP2500 then you might be a little CPU bound in some games (HL2 in particular will get less benefit unless you really turn on AA & AF), but it should still allow you to turn up the bells and whistles a little more for most games.

There's an article here that will show you the difference between a X800 Pro and a 9800 Pro and it confirms the doubling of performance.   So the final question would be - how much has it been offered for?  If the price is right then it is probably still a godd upgrade.

1900 sek = 137.25 gbp with warranty left and clocked to XT (according to him)

thanks.

Seems cheaper than normal if it is in good condition.  As to the value?  Who knows.  Personally I am hanging on to my current 9800 Pro to move to an AMD new socket system in about 2 months time, but if you're not planning a total system upgrade then that graphics card might be a decent bet and at a later date you can always add a higher spec CPU for not a lot.

Is that a vivo? and what make is the card?. Has he added a better cooler than the stock one and can he show you some benchmarks for overclocking performance?. Is there a games bundle with that (ie) oem or retail version.

Currently on several secondhand forums X800Pro's (AGP-vivo) can be had for around the £120 mark delivered (in the UK) but without the warranty whilst 6800Ultras are going for around £130-140.

It is and X800 Pro (256 MB) that has a flashed bios so it is an X800 XT platinum edition. Zalman VF700Cu fan on it.

Got a Leadtek Extreme Edition 6600GT - runs at 550/1120 instead of the standard 500/1000. I've clocked it up to 580/1305 on stock cooling.
Comes boxed with everything.

Also got a Sapphire X800XT Platinum Edition - extremely rare card, similar performance/bit better than a 6800Ultra. Comes with VIVO cables and DVI converter.

Looking for £70inc for the 6600GT and £90inc for the X800XT PE.

You may find, dependant on mobo, that the additional 512mb of memory reduces your ddr 200Mhz to 166Mhz with the three sticks....more memory but slower speed!!  :)
