Router problems

After posting on the BoD forums I was pointed in this direction by Duvel :)

For quite a while now ive been having problems with my router. basically what happens is a message will popup in the system tray saying 'A Network Cable is unplugged' then a second later another will pop up saying 'Connected to Network 100mbps'. The upshot of this is that I get disconnected from the net for about 10 seconds. This is highly frustrating when playing BF2 or CZ as I have to reload the whole thing up again. There are 2 computers currently using the router, this PC which is plugged in through the cable and another which i upstairs and connects wirelessly. The PC on the wireless connection gets a similar message only it says no network detected, then it comes back. This problem is very inconsistent and can dissappear for days. It can happen 1 or 2 times a day, not at all, or every 5 minutes. Its as though it is being turn off at the power socket then back on again, or resetting or something.

Ill have to get back to you on the model but I do know its a KCorp make.

Have you checked the phone cable from the router to the phone socket? Is it securely connected and have no obvious kinks?
Next is the powersupply for the router also securely connected and plugged into the wall socket properly, not getting knocked by a table/chair/ human leg?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

are you able to check the routers logs - should be accessible in the router config sections (either via a web browser or some sort of telnet thing usually) to see if it's logging any errors/disconnections?

It's almost certainly a faulty router (assuming all sn00ks cable check are ok - although the ADSL line isn't in the equation).

Try updating the firmware.

I would also check it is on a properly split line - ie the splitter is plugged in (or you are plugged into the master socket data port.  A telephone ringing can DC you if not on a splitter.

I had that with my adsl run through a phone splitter at the socket.

Will just add that you will need filters (splitters) for all phones, even picking up a phone can cuase a disconnect.
