What I'm mainly after are mobo/cpu and further case suggestions (compact, metal, preferably with that brushed-aluminium look  )  It needs to be reasonably quiet and reasonably compact. One HDD for now, maybe another later. I'm planning to get an 8800GTS of some description (or similar) and thinking Core2Duo (with a future upgrade to Quad a possibility) which I suppose I will be obliged to overclock a bit. I don't believe in SLi and neither does my wallet, so it'll be a single gpu setup.

already bought these parts (through various deals):
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Gold GX XTC CL5
OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU review £under 50 delivered from ebuyer
320Gb Hitatchi Deskstar SATA

Current cases I am interested in include:
Lian-Li PC-A05 link link
Lian-Li PC-7 Plus link link
Silverstone TJ04link
Silverstone SUGO SG01 link - the uATX contender! or the SG02 if available link
maybe the Antec p182 (though I don't like how it looks that much)
Lian-Li ...other... tbh there's an awful lot of Lian-Lis that look very similar...

Confused about motherboard/cpu choice though...
I imagine getting one of the newer chipsets would make sense. P35, G33, X38? I would be happier with uATX options but realise that ATX is still the dominant form factor. DDR2 is a must which probably rules out the X38 and half the P35s. Only feature I'd really like to see would be good quality onboard audio with good gaming positional audio like EAX but that's not the most common thing to find it seems.

On the cpu front I'm thinking either e4300(~£70) or e6600(~135) right now and am leaning towards the e4300 despite it's possible lack of Vista virtualisation(?). Would I really notice the e6600 over the e4300 in games do you think?

Thanks in advance :flirty:

About time Suicidal, you've been talking about a new rig before I had mine.
So no Shuttle? I reckon I'd still prefer a normal PCbuild but I'm still really happy with my Shuttle (can't bring a normal PCcase to the UK).

Keep an eye out on that 320Gb Hitatchi Deskstar SATA. Several people told me not to get Hitatchi Deskstar as they seemed to be called Hitatchi Deathstar. For the rest, nice stuff you've allready got, as you know I can't really recommend anything except; Norm

I know Hitachi haven't the best reputation but the comments I've seen on that drive were positive :) Plus I frigure Hitachi are still leagues ahead of Maxtor:D At least Hitachi develop the technology (1st Terabyte drive was a Deskstar :))

While I like shuttles I don't like the lack of upgrades in terms of motherboard and cpu and a lot of people seem to complain about the onboard audio which would almost be a necessity in a shuttle? The SG01 is my shuttle-esque case of choice - it'll take a standard ATX psu too. http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-303-1.htm :flirty:

Not seen Norm about in ages! Plus I've already bought a few bits so not sure he'd be too happy about a semi-build?

True anout the upgrade part, that's why I wanted mine top notch for the next few years (I reckon 2 years, then depending on what the needs are for the newest games).
About the onboard sound, I still haven't had any problems or find it lacking. There are some good options now a days for audio in Shuttles though.

Norm games now and then, not really sure if he still checks the forum often though, I'd suggest dropping him a PM and find out.

I could've sworn you had had issues ... or was that just the front audio ports out? Does it's onboard audio do positional 3d audio on a par with (for example) the audigy2 cards?

The front jacks of the SD37P2 are not so good. First I had a headset which I had to connect them there but in the end I went for a more expensive headset (USB) which ended the problem.
Not sure about the rest though but if you would ask the same question over at the forum @ http://www.sudhian.com you'll get a pretty fast reply I reckon. Today I've put up a question about my fans (I still think they're a tad to noisy sometimes) and got a reply really fast.

FOr a motherboard, the new P35 boards seems to performing extremely well,
ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP AIlifestyle.. Even overclocking options seem to be rather nice on those board (HAvent had time to read OC' tests of it yet tho)

The AD1988B onboard sound chip on that board, doesnt sound to bad on features, it has EAX 1.0 & 2.0, and HD Audio.. So looks like it fits your requirements just fine.

CPU wise, i would choose the e6420 or e6600...

I think your best bet would be to get a 6300. They are now under £100 and it will save you money for your future upgrade to quad. Aboiut hitachi Duv, at least they're not like western digital who charge for support after 30 days.

When their stuff doesn;t break that's a kind of moot point.  I have never had to use WD Support in many years of using many WD disks.  Currently I have about 10 of them running in various systems at home.  I think you also forget the warranty that comes with it - who on earth would need anything other than that?

From scan computers, the xx20 C2D cpu's, is as you can see with the new Allendale core, slightly optimized algorithms and double Cache! :D
Oddly the 6320 is cheaper then the normal 6300..

Prices are from scan.co.uk

Hitachi disks are actually of VERY high quality, got two hitachi disks running 24/7, no issues with them what so ever. Performance is awsome. Talked with some friends that work at PRCdata and Midtdata which are some of the biggest hardware sellers in denmark, according too them, Hitachi disks have the lowest RMA rate of all the disks they sell. :)

I would love some more hitachi drives. :D

Is it me, or... is either cache or Conroe/Allendale swapped? Most cache should be the most expensive CPU, quite often?

Just realised that i messed up in my post, conroe has double cache... must be the heat.. sorry..

about the prices, they are so similar priced that some places the 4mb cache cpu's are cheaper then the 2mb ones,...
¤mb ones are faster as we all know. Tho the 2mb ones oc better :D

The chip I was actually thinking about is the E4300 as it's only like £75 or less and with a bit of overclocking should come close to e6600 speeds without too much hassle. LEss cache but I'd like to see a review where they clock the e4300 and e6600 and the other chips to the same GHz value so that you get to see if there's a performance difference clock for clock with the extra cache. I don't think virtualisation sounds very important (not yet anyway) and that's further saving towards a future possible Quad core.

I also thought I should wait until the price cuts on the 22nd July...:flirty:
