The Resident Evil series didn't tempt me too much, I was into my "Alone in the Dark" more and never got round to it properly. And going way way back. Shadow of the Comet. Now that was a spooky game.
(if anyone finds a working version for XP let me know....it was a DOS game and I've looked myself before)

Oh and as for games I passed my time during exams...(no not revising)...playing "The Longest Journey" that was pretty cool it's in the same genre as Grim Fandango and has a very deep story line.

In that it's not overly original, is a system hog and smells of rotting corpses?

How can anyone diss Oblivion? Although, I play it on Xbox 360, not PC. But the game is great! The Dark Brotherhood quests (Assasin's guild) are particularly awesome, the main questline is excellent, the Theives Guild Quests give you great fun to use equipment, attempting to break out of jail is amazing fun, Mercantile & Speechcraft are simple to use... The only thing that anyone could really consider bad is the battles can be difficult, but that just makes it a challenging game - plus the world-levels-up-with-you thing gets rid of the rubbish way people can just grind levels to become vastly superior to your enemies. And also, just find out any given enemies weakness and exploit it - for instance, Trolls hate fire, so put some fiery poison on your weapon, or use fireballs. And there's almost always more than one way to do something. And with fast travel & Quest/self-created markers/waypoints, it really doesn't have to be very time consuming (just enjoy it, you don't have to race to complete it).

Anyway! I'd recommend BF2(142), Oblivion (don't listen to the others! You know you can trust the person you hardly know!), Halo (maybe 2 on Vista, but never tried it) and you should really give Half Life 2 another chance. It's a really great game. Also, remember to get The Orange Box, including Portal and Team Fortress 2. They're looking like they'll be awesome games :D.

Also, don't know if you're into Strategy games, but I'd recommend Dawn of War (although can be costly getting the original with the 2 exp. packs), any C&C game and Warcraft 3 + The Frozen Throne.

Oh, and also, Quake 4 is great fun.

Oblivion has a major flaw that I found. If you use a bow you can kill anything. I got my marksman to it's highest level, with an awesome bow and great arrows with poison etc etc, and it would take 12+ arrows to kill any half decent enemy (not even bosses). Didn't see much point it being there.

Also Dawn of War is Awesome, can't remember what but you can get it free with another game with an expansion. So well worth checking out.

One of my favourite games of all time is Sacrifice. If you liked Giants: Citizen Kabuto, you'll love it. Innovative, awesome fun and completely and utterly bonkers. The high level instant-kill 'Bovine Intervention' spell, in which you launch a massive cow at the enemy is particularly memorable. Can you tell it was made by the same people who did earthworm jim? I'd recommend this to anyone. :D

One of the worst games i have ever played is the 5.99 addon to bf2142 but on the upside i got sent an email asking me to fill in a questionaire which i did... they sent me by email the cdkey for C&C 3 for nothing just put it in ea link and got it for nowt... thats 2 games on ea link i havet had to pay for....

as for most anticipated game for me this year will be the free game that comes with half life 2 episode 2.... which is the portal game as that looks like it could be some fun :D and probs halo 3 but i havent decided on that yet as i have played the demo (online xbox 360) and didnt get a feel for it...

other than bf2142 and css thats all i play these days as fed up with xbox360 and all the other games are doing my head in
Are you going to come quietly, or do I have to use earplugs?

If your playing Oblivion on pc then you've got no excuse to moan about anything in the game, the mod scene is huge with the ability to change just about everything in the game, I've got about 60 of the addons, dunno if I used them all, but at one time or another I tried them all out.

& yes, Dawn of War rocks, the game was worth it for the intro sequence alone.
