However, if they are incorrectly executed then that's it for them.  They can't come back.

I'd be for a death penaly if there was no doubt whatsoever as to their guilt i.e. they were caught in the act with the blood-soaked meat cleaver.

Exactly video evidence DNA etc if 100% guilty hang em

DNA is not 100%! It gives probabilities of it being an individual. The probability can and does vary, it may be a billion to one or it could be a million to one but either way it is still statistics and not 100%

Beyond Reasonable doubt is good enough for me.
If you know you face the death penalty ,in theory, you should stop and think before you commit murder etc...think of the saving to the taxpayer?

Yup we're told that something will work as a deterrent but it often has no effect. Like the I.D card we're slowly being forced into, Russia has had I.D cards of sorts for ages and they still have plenty of terrorism and things going on there.
I assume the death penalty was only partially about the deterent side in the first place. Keeping someone locked up for a long time cost lots of money, people aren't sure if prison is suitable punishment for the terrible crimes they've commited. The death penalty gives closure to the victim/family. Also people are slightly more likely to plead guilty if they're offered a deal to avoid the death penalty.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

With Ian Huntly trying to commit suicide, wondering if his victim's familys would rather see him in jail 'suffering'.
