I have 2 boys and a girl, and if anybody were to harm them I would take the perpetrator apart piece by piece.

How anybody can do that to what is still (essentially) a baby is beyond me?!

What a disturbing world we live in

My thoughts go out to Ryan's family at this devastating time.

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

Hangings never gonna come back & never should, what happens the 1st time someones found to be wronlgy convicted after they'd been hung? "oops sorry" isn't really gonna cut it. Stop making prisons like hotels & stop worrying about murderors rights & crap, & then you might be getting somewhere.

Onto the subject of what happened with the kids, yea thats so many differant types of wrong, I don't have any kids of my own, but I know if anything happened to my god kids I'd go nuts.

Wish there was some form of punishment to fit the crime.
However, how would you feel if your offspring was one of the accused?

Read a few threads on the way our country is going, and I don't think it will ever get better.

BBC website reports that one of the two men arrested for the murder is the kids father!!!!!

Referendum Time.?
I think it should come back with video evidence DNA advances etc
Politicians will not allow it as we would vote 70% in favour of bringing it back.

Many people protested innocence when we had death penalty in the uk, DNA evidence coming to light now shows they were guilty, and the correct decision made.
BTW I did not click on the link.

I beleive it is time that the country changes...

I have personally been stabbed twice and have got to wander about with an artificial kneecap the kneecap happened when i was 16 12 guys "were bored and i was a target" (one of the reasons i now drive an auto and not my beloved alfa)

over the last 2 years how many atrocities against children by other children or adults does there need to be how many lives are to be lost?

this is senseless children need not die young especially young ones in a western 21st century, yes i have an axe to grind but no its not against the government for doing nothing to stop it but the people who do these senseless acts and it needs to be stopped and "eye for an eye" and all that..

People worry too much about getting the wrong guy. If a person has sat through a whole trial without giving "reasonable doubt" and the subsequent retrials too they must be guilty, or at least an unpleasant person.
There has to be hard evidence linking the person the the crime. People don't get found guilty for no reason. If a person is wrongly convicted but has mugged countless old women I don't see it as a loss. People value human life too much sometimes, it's precious but still needs to be put in perspective to the misery they've inflicted to countless others.

So what you are saying, is that you wouldn't mind get the death penalty for e.g. a murder he didn't commit, as long as he has done some minor robbery or similar? Sorry, but that is just about the most stupid thing I've heard this whole day.

There are several examples of people that has been innocently convicted. Luckily, we don't have death penalty in Norway, so there was a chance to give them vindication and a proper excuse.

The Fritz Moen case is a good example. It is one of the worst scandals of the Norwegian justice system ever, and even though the guy fur sure wasn't an angel, he experienced some serious injustice.

How is locking someone in prison for the rest of their life any less cruel? They get subjected to all the bad thing being in prison brings, with little or no chance of coming out (unless they're young, but even if you come out being in prison will have changed them). People try to commit suicide in prison for a reason, it's not very nice.
People on Death Row stay there for a long time, go through lots of appeals like regular prisoners, they don't just instantly get hung after the trial. So if after all that they haven't been let off it's pretty much certain they'll spend the rest of their life in prison, short of brand new evidence coming to light.
My point wasn't so much that people should hang for muggings, but that there shouldn't be a preserve life at all costs attitude preventing the death penalty, and that it should be put in perspective to the alternative which is spending the rest of your life behind bars.

As for the case you mentioned, the guy was wrongfully convicted and it was overturned, so he could live 6 months as a free man. I'm sure for him those were a nice 6 months and everything, but I somewhat doubt they made up for the 26 years he was locked up for, they took away his life even if they didn't kill him.

Yes, I suppose it can ruin their life.

However, if they are incorrectly executed then that's it for them.  They can't come back.

I'd be for a death penaly if there was no doubt whatsoever as to their guilt i.e. they were caught in the act with the blood-soaked meat cleaver.
