For anybody who was reading "The Wheel of Time" series and waiting for the final book - 12 it will not be coming.

Robert Jordan died on the 16th September 2007.

Now no offence to him as i didn't know him but damn i am annoyed at not being able to finish the series.

I got to 10 but always meant to read them all from the start due to the long gaps between them.

QuoteDue to his health problems, Jordan did not work at full force on the final installment, but blog entries confirmed that he continued work on it until his death, and he shared all of the significant plot details with his family not long before he died. He maintained that in doing so the book will get published even if "worst happens".

Final volume

 On October 18, 2005, at a book signing in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Jordan gave the working title of the 12th book as A Memory of Light. As one of the attendees told Dragonmount.com, Jordan also warned that the final volume of the saga "could be a 1500-page monster" because he has so many dangling plot threads to wrap up in a single volume. He maintained that A Memory of Light would remain one volume "whether it is 1500 pages long, Tor has to invent a new binding system, or it comes with its own library cart".
 Due to his health problems, Jordan did not work at full force on the final installment, but blog entries confirmed that he continued work on it until his death, and he shared all of the significant plot details with his family not long before he died. He maintained that in doing so the book will get published even if "worst happens". [9] The webmester of Wotmania, one of the biggest fan communities, posted that in a talk with Jason, "He said that Jordan has been dictating outlines and plot lines and everything else related to the final book. He used the phrase "army of writers" to talk about the people that were converting those tapes into written form. It would appear that the final book will still be published."[10]

Edit: Jamoe - soz :blush:

Not to be overly critical against the possible person who would take up the task of actually finishing the series but they will either get it so right or so very wrong and potentially ruin the series.

I hope whoever takes it up though can do Mr Jordan some justice and tie up this fantastic series. Book 11 i thought was fantastic.

For Oldie: Or they could make it less longwinded ;)

On a seperate note:
Anyone know why "Wrath of a Mad god" from Raymond feist has been delayed until next year? (was previously due 1st October)

I've not read the series but considering how final installments are so often unsatisfying to readers I don't envy the job the latest writer(s) have to tie it up without ruining it.

Good news;

QuoteBy now you are all aware of the grand news that Brandon Sanderson will be working closely with Harriet and Jim’s staff to write aMoL. Brandon has proven himself in the genre. Harriet, hand picked him for the task. I hope you are as pleased and excited as we that he accepted the challenge. As you will learn in Jason’s interview, Brandon has long been a WOT fan. Now he has the privilege of donning the gleeman’s cloak and telling us the ending of the tale. I am sure that he will do Jim’s epic proud.

Hope he didn't write his own epitaph. They'd still be at the funeral if he had :sideways:
