The qualification really went well. I had a few laps first doing regular 1:59´s, took a short break, and came back thinking that earlier braking and better balancing through corners should give a bit faster time. It worked, and I was surprised of the result. The XRT is a really nice car, it requires so smooth controls, mastering it could help driving any other car better.

The start was not bad, but Iron could easily pass me at the first corner. Deetz could also a bit later, but we all drove close to each other until me and D got disconnected. I was just getting in to the 1h race feeling and I was thinking that I should be able to push a bit harder to get closer to Iron. After being disconnected I just stared at the screen for a few seconds and felt a bit stupid.

Is there anything I should do to minimize the risk of being disconnected again? Or is it just something in the route from my PC to the server that causes the lag? My connection has been very stable this far, I think this was the first disconnection I got from the main server. I don't have any anti-virus or firewalls running on the sim PC, nor do I have much other stuff there either, since the PC is used mainly for LFS. My VDSL modem is from Cisco and the WLAN router is from Netgear, though the connection for the sim PC is of course with a cable.

For all of you in the LAN party, have a great time!

Once it leaves your house you have very little what you can do.

Some things which might cause lag is autoupdating firewalls, antivir-programs (but which you didn't have) and windows update. You can turn those off (autoupdating) but it could compromise your security if you forget to update them manually. if you have multiple PCs, any of them can be hoggin bandwidth from your line if they are on at the same time.

I assume you have system like this:

PC <---> wlan router <---> VDSL modem <--|--->(DSLAM in phone center)

If you don't have firewall in you PC, you should keep it e.g in the modem (I suppose it is in NAT mode so getting through it is hard anyway).

You could try these:
- if you have bandwidth management in the router and modem you could define a secured share for the LFS traffic (to those ports) - e.g 256kbs of total. That way you have always that 256 available for LFS
- define a higher priority to LFS traffic (if you can)
- connect the game PC directly to VDSL modem (if it is a multiport router/switch type).

But to be honest I doubt it would be anything in your house. I would say you have been lucky if you have had only 1 disco so far.

BTW: From where did you get the VDSL line? I bet your house is in the city area. How much band do you get and how much did they sell to you ...and what does it cost? :g:

exactly. only NAT on the router. windows autoupdates are turned off.

- good tips, I'm gonna check if these can be done

- can't do this

DNA Baana Taloyhtiö, on the contract it's 1/1Mbits but in reality it's about 10/10Mbits. It costs 23€/month.
