actually using IE lately, the lack of mozilla fixing the ever increasing memory leak issues with FF, has actually made me not installing it after i installed Windows 7 on MediaC or when i swapped back to XP on my gaming rig, both mainly using IE now..

LoL it doesn't take long for some of us to start bashing MS :g:

I use Chrome and IE.  FF, while it does have lovely addons is slow and gets annoying when it asks you to update addons

"dammit! I just wanna load the browser and surf man!"

So how many milliseconds have passed since IE 8 release?  Has it been hacked yet guys?  I'm sure you MS bashers will be right on top of that question

I'm not bashing it as a browser. I'm bashing Microsoft for seemingly being in denial that they are touting features and concepts as their very own revolutionary ideas that have been staple parts of other browsers for years.

I find it a little offensive that they think me dumb enough not to forget the years that IE was bloated, non web standards compliant and a security nightmare. While millions of users struggled with the dreadful consequences of the security flaws in IE, Microsoft lived in a sort of fantasy world where there were no problems at all. Now they finally realise that people are genuinely interested in their own PC security, hold Microsoft responsible for the security of their products and are therefore leaving them in droves, we finally see this obsession with PC security kick in.

Too little and far too late Microsoft.

Might be a bit OT, but here goes
with the chance of getting flamed as a MS fanboy here, id like to start with the words, IM NOT and im not bashing anyone elses oppinions here :)

Yes back in teh old days MS has had alot of issues with security, but were it as a bad as any other browser? i think not, remember the horified Netscape cheesecake? a more security flawed browser has never existed, FF isnt that perfect either and never has been, and safari oh dear..
The only reason MS has always been in the spotlight as their great dominance on the browser market, who would bother spending hours looking for security holes in a browser like safari ? with a browser share of less then 2%?
I dont think MS was ignorant of their issues, but as they being the usually the ones on top, they just didnt spend enough resources on it in the consumers oppinion.
MS is getting better and seemed to have realised that the normal consumer doesnt really know anything about computer security and they therefor need to take the responsebility, and with the latest browser versions, they really stepped up the fight, yeah MS IE doesnt have the same plugin posebilities as for example FF, but aernt they really just another security issue we as consumers are ignorant too?
The latest version IE 8, seems to me as rather stable and surprisingly low resource demanding, a issue other browsers seem to be ignorant on these days.
Looking at the resources spent just now by 3 browsers installed (Firefox, Safari and IE8) all 3 browsers has 4 sites open in tabs.

Firefox 692mb.
Safari 211mb.
IE8 91mb.

impressive actually.

The consumer, in my oppinion the greatest security flaw in all of computer land, we whine and whine about security holes, viruses, spam and so forth.. but is it actually not also our responsibility that we make sure that our own computer has a certain degree of security measures?
We continue to open emails from suspecious people and letting sites install software on our puters we dont really know what is?

I honestly think there should be a law stating a consumer should get a licens to use a computer and security etiquette before allowed infront of one, taht would probably help a serious bit on the security front.

These were just a few silly thoughts from a bored and very tired little duck :) btw soz for typos and weird sentences, wrote it in hurry

@Kreg I echo your sentiments 100%.

We blame MS for security holes, but surely we must be aiming our verbal attacks at the hackers who are willing to try and exploit our online activities.

I think stealing confidential data from banks and other organisations should be a much higher profile than whether a hacker 'could' break into our PC exploiting a data loop or some such random problem.

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't mind guessing that the recent (this last year) thefts and losses of our usernames, passwords and other important account details has had a FAR higher impact on PC security.

We go on about security issues with IE but if that user didn't click on that phishing email from 'Lloyds Bank' asking them to re-input important information, then we perhaps would not be in such a panic.

Has anyone looked at how secure all those FF addons are?  Maybe they haven't cos the same people highlighting the problems of IE are the same ones advocating FF?

2 cents :norty:

I'm gonna stop there for a mo.

FWIW on my 2GB laptop I have never been no where near those levels of memory usage with FF, despite leaving it on for weeks and just putting laptop in standby or hibernation. I haven't closed FF in 14 days or so. I think maximum usage ever has been around 250-300MB with 20 tabs open (I usually have around 10+ tabs open) and with some basic add-ons like ABP, NoScript and AutoPager.

However, to the point, the reason for not using IE goes beyond security. I basically agree with you kreg, security is always in the hands on the user, but there is more to the browsing than security.

It havent always been a issue with FireFox, but since 3.0 its been insane how firefox mem usage escalates at time..

I am on 3.0.5. Yeah I've heard, but just not experienced it at all. Maybe a 50MB increase, at maximum?
