I bought and built a server (practically) despite its lack of ram it had 2 xeon nocona chips running at 2.8ghz with hyperthreading. My instinct back in 2004/2005 was to build the best computer there was available. So instead of buying a p4 3.8ghz, which were more expensive than two xeons on their own or other p4's i went the dual processor socket 604 xeon route which gave me quad core practically "then" although it was only hyperthreading with 3gb ddr400 ram and a NCCH-DL motherboard.

The GPU was cutting edge back then and is still a 6800gt so a bit long in the tooth. PSU and hard drive specs still ok with a 250gb hdd and room for more as it was built in a chieftec dragon dx-01 (bright yellow i'm afraid).

Anyway, I could get a new board for this pc  Â£100- £300 making it allow a pci-e card and slotting in a new gpu inside as the board only has agp and PCI X (i think) or simply give it my 8800gts 640mb and get a slightly newer one for mine.  This is not a preferred option as its alot of money for something that i'd prefer to leave as is if possible. tbh i am really unsure whether its past it or essentially what can i use it for.

I was thinking of using it as a media pc but is it worth it?

All in all i haven't really used the pc in years and its been at my parents house being used for emails and thats about it. They now just want a laptop so what would you do in my position? The cpu's etc aren't top tech anymore and yes the pc would be ok as a streamer for media.

As i was at uni i bought a rubbish laptop, 1.3ghz celeron 256 ram basically the dark ages. I left my pc at home to help me study and then after two years jumped onto grabbing a £500-£600 pc. This has since been upgraded to a q6600, 8gb ddr2, same board and GPU. So now i basically have two pc's one thats mid build (the latter) and one as bright as the sun that is pretty much not doing alot until i get my own pad.

What are your thoughts for what i can do with it?
