I was sooo happy to read about this, and i can't wait too see what it will look like in the end! And if there is going to be (very) limited setup options, even better!

Quote from: ScawenWhile we were working on the Scirocco in December, we found that we could not make the LFS model handle as well as the real car. One of the reasons for this was that the LFS tyres had too much grip and this was causing the inside wheels to lose too much load while cornering. But simply reducing the grip would not have been a good approach... the result would have been just the same old LFS but at lower speeds.

We decided to look into a completely new core tyre model.

Quote from: GrebothOnly in LFS would a problem be found leading to the whole tyre physics being re-written and thats what I love about it.

I have to agree. Excellent news. :thumb:

superb :yahoo: imho the tyre physics was one of the major flaws with the sim

looking forward to getting my hand on this update

I was really thrilled when I read this as well. :D Like lovretta said, if they limit the setup options to be more realistic then this could come together very nicely indeed!

A little comment on LFS vs iRacing too: while iRacing has been churning out new content like there's no tomorrow without fixing the underlaying flaws of the whole sim (transmission, night/day, repairs, you name it..) the LFS devs are going in the other direction. It pleases me to see! And who knows, maybe Eric has some stuff up his sleeve as well.. remodelled, detailed track surfaces anyone? LFS could be reborn! :yahoo:

This is what would bring me back to LFS in a flash.   The physics were always good (it's great to hear they will be getting better) but the feel is dead compared to what is available to us now.

Cant wait to see what the guys come up with.  New tyre physics alone just aren't going to make enough difference though.  FFB and track surface improvements are essential.

Somehow I don't think a new tyre model is gonna make that much of a difference in the way LFS feels (even though Scawen says it will result in a better "feel"), and that's one of the departments where it's lacking the most IMO. Oh well, any update is a good update I suppose. I gotta say, though, that I'm not as thrilled about LFS updates as I once used to be :g:

EDIT: one thing I would be very glad for would be realistic setup options like you guys already mentioned. It would make LFS so much better I might actually start to enjoy it again :)

It pleases me too, I will be back in LFS to check it out. But unless it IS LFS reborn, it will be a short tryout.

That's right chaps, open minds. I wonder how much input VW had in the holding up of the release of the Scirocco. :g:We'll watch with interest.

I remember someone raised the same question at the end of '08 at lfsforum, and Scawen said they got not too much data, actually very small amount of data, but then again who knows what did happen since then...

And approach is absolutely amazing, they did not want to fudge the "mod" physics, what they are doing is correcting their physics engine!

About the deadness, well to me also lfs feels dead, and it's hard to point finger at something... Mathematically, it may be the purest sim of them all, but immersion it creates is not as intensive as nKp, or some rF stuff.
Maybe they need to add the possibility of choosing between crossfaded-sound samples engine and current synth one. Or maybe add more effects playing while you drive, like going over kerbs. AFAIK going over kerbs in lfs is "only" noticeable by head-view shaking and ff rumbling, but no sound.

Forcefeedback may improve itself after this new tyre physics... So far only Scawen knows.

...just some random toughts...

I was pleased to read Scawens post but not to the boiling point like some other users. It will be really nice addition with propably lots more improvements that Scawen didn't mention. My hopes go for more content. As i drove all lfs combos possible at least twice(which are over 1k) i'm eager for more content. I'm pretty sure Eric didn't had many things to do with most updates we had for last 1 and half year so i'm hoping for at least some new layout's on current tracks if not a whole new one. Just my few cents.
